What the heck has happened to the ethics of today's work force? They have had an ad on the loal country radio station that goes like this, $2000.00 dollar signing bonus, work hard and get another bonus, come to work on time and get another bonus, refer another person and get another bonus. I've been retired for 20 years but when I was in the work force you were interviewed for a job and they took the best of the applicants, you did what you were hired to do and you came to work on time, fail any of these and they fired you. I just don't get it.

What work force? No one wants to work anymore. My outfit is operating at about 30% vacancies right now and has been for the last couple of years.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I agree. Now they reward people for doing the things they should be doing in the first place.

Gary, when I was teaching high school I talked with my students a lot about “ how their weekend was?” or “what’s going on in their lives?” etc... small talk. It amazed me how many times they worked a job for six weeks , quit and started another one and this cycle seemed to be the norm. Even my oldest son said that is typical in the work force today...no long term bonds/ loyalty with their employer.

Saw it before I had to retire, people walking in late everyday for shifts going and coming on breaks what ever time they wanted, bonus money for refering people for hire attendance bonus for just showing up,seems like today workers can pick and choose how they can do their work. I saw the quality of things doing down hill,ya have to beg and give away more money to get people to work now days,But when you look at it wages still do not keep up with cost. The other thing that I saw is that a good yes man and suckup moved up faaster than the guy that was good and had more work smarts.

The government has made it so that small business can't afford the workforce they desire. No one is going to come break their back all day when they can go stand in the chick fila drive thru window for 18.50 an hour.

It's the new sense of entitlement. I want everything you got and worked for years to get but I want it now for nothing because " I deserve it".
My boys arec16 and 13. We've made it clear your house, clothes, food and other necessities are covered. You want something you work for it outside of the chores you do here. Hasn't been an issue especially since they figured out it's easy to make money quick for a little sweat because nobody else wants to do anything anymore.

That street goes two ways, companies have zero loyalty too. Constant downsizing and lay people off at drop of a hat now

pensions are ancient history....all 401k now which moves with you to your next gig was a massive change for people staying at one company for a career or moving on after a few years

The focus is not on the job today it’s all about the perks, pride in work is dead it’s all about when do I get paid how much time off do I get and I want bankers hours or I’m not interested in working they will pay me to stay home.

Working for the park system this summer I’m impressed with the quality of young workers they hired. Kids recruited out of high schools that are ready to work and think for themselves all are ready to step in and get the job done. They complain about not being busy but they are rural raised kids that might have a lot to do with that.

It's pretty bad all over, many people are not willing to work and if they are poor workers, business owners are afraid to fire them because they might not be able to find anyone to replace them.

When people find that their needs can be met without working ……THEY QUIT WORKING!

Isn’t that what socialism/communism does. Make welfare employment of the state!

Takes a away incentive, self worth, creates dependence!

What we see now is the decline of our country.
