Friday morning Doncas(Jerry named him) didn't wanna eat. He fell when he was walking towards him to try to eat.
I had to go to my mom's so he checked him a couple more times. He'd eat a little the stop.
When I got one with my mom I came home and fixed him a bottle and went to feed him. When I got to the fence h didn't met me an I could see he was laying on the ground.
When I went around and into the barn I found him laying on The ground.
When I picked him up he was limp. Like a towel. Literally draped over my arm.
I carried him inside..he did not move.
I sat down and pulled him.up on my lap and tried to get him to take the botttle and he wouldn't take it.
I rubbed his chest and told him he wasn't gonna die on me that I wasn't gonna let him and even though his eye had started to cloud I think he understood I wasn't gonna let him die.
He couldn't move but he watched me.
I put my finger inside his mouth and his mouth was cold. Gums too.
I.pried his mouth open and got my finger over his tongue..which was also cold he didn't make any sounds at all.
I made a bottle and added a tablespoon of honey to it..I put the nipple in his mouth and began massaging his throat while applying gentle pressure to the bottle to get him to take some milk.
He barely sucked at all.
Then I made another bottle of lamb formula and heated it up pretty good and started the process over.
After about 45 min of working on him he started to slowly nurse. After 2 hrs he was nursing good and standing on his own and eating grain.
Jerry had went outside during my trying to revive him because he didn't think he was gonna live. He was amazed he didn't die and so was i.
He was as near dead as he could have been and lived. I still can't believe itI.
We have a bond now better than before.
He waits for me and comea.runnin when I to him from across the yard.
I do believe he knows I love him and I think he knows I helped him.
I saved a lamb once but I truly can't believe the little guy is still alive.
He wanted to live and he didn't let go..he fought for his life too.
I call him lucky.
Jerry re y wasn't too happy cause I kept him.in the house for 3 days to make sure he was strong enough to go back back to the barn.
The first night he was in the bedroom. I told Jerry to scoot over to make room. For him.lol
I was only kidding.. I didn't.let him in the bed but i did hold him.on my lap and rock him for a longtime while he laid his head on my chest and rested.

Any idea why he wasn't eating in the first place?

good job
are you thinking heat stress then not feeding lead to weakness and near death ?
you seem to be well verse in animal husbandry I just like to know the thought process and what you think the why is.

How old is he? We have a miniature donkey, I hope we never have to go through that.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

He's 3 weeks or so. I think k that the milk th g u gave me to feed him...goats milk and ows milk didn't have all he nutrients that he needed.
He was In a shaded area.
He just seemed eat every since I got him.
I to Jerry he was probably gonna be a dang chronic..with my luck.
I've raised several.lambs on the bottle and if they b get to where Doncas was they don't survive.
I really don't know for sure what was the cause of his episode was but he's full recovered.
His ears are up..his yes are bright and he's not stumbling anymore when he walks.
I'm keeping a close eye on him.
I add a tablespoons honey to each bottle now.
There's been no scours and overall he.just.looks and acts better
I'm really happy he survived

I'm going to break it down for Nessmuck. Cathryn fed the young donkey lamb formula and honey to bring him back to life.

Not yet.. there's no thistles in his lot.. but he sure eats willow bushes.
He tried to kick me again but I think he's just happy.
When I scratch his neck he'll just close his eyes and stretch his neck out on my leg and when I stop he'll give me a look and then starts butting his head against my hand so I'll scratch him some more.
I'm so happy he didn't die
