Thanks for posting. Here in northern Wisconsin, large leeches are selling for $40/pound as of last weekend. The sport shop owner said he was going to have to raise the price.

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

Interesting, I potted salt water minnows "killies" for many years, I'm surprised he uses those little Gee pots for the minnows, I wouldn't be able to make a living with those here.
The leech traps are new to me, have him make a large "rubber" band out of 1/8 " bungee cord fastened to one end and he won't have to fool with those clamps.....Always interesting seeing different techniques for harvesting stuff.

For some reason jumbos were hard to find this year. I catch my own and most were medium. I use folded over pie plates with the remains of filleted crappies for bait. I tried deer liver but had better luck with fish. I catch 300 every Spring in about 3 nights with a half dozen traps and they last me the whole season.

That's what I paid here too.

I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

Jim, thanks for the video. Guys have been using the accordian style traps here for 30 years or more. Used to get the aluminum from newspaper shops. You could read the old news and set traps lol.

Were we baitfish trap the rules have changed and you can not move bait out of your area.

We are in zone 8, in the past leeches would come from the south and it was not worth it for us to trap.

I used coffee cans too, back in the day.... One of the ponds with the biggest leeches also had huge bloodsuckers.. The bloodsuckers looked pretty good so I tried them for bait. Walleyes would grab them and spit them out so fast and hard my line would go slack....

We have looked at coffee cans but running 80 traps it would take up a lot of room.

Have not notice a big difference in the catch if we check earlier or later, do notice a big difference when we take more time to make sure trap is closed right.

Leech trapping sure bets having to do ADC work in the big city does it not Jim.
What other better way is there to have the top of the waders found at least with warm water and to find out if they are Sunday waders and HOLLY
all of Manitoba's minnow trappers are grandfather in so they are trying to squeeze them out, expect the same with these Invasive Species Regulations

Last summer at the NTA in Iowa, a VERY inebriated feller from Minnesota staggered into our camp one night. He was very comical and we had some laughs with him. He claimed to be a professional leech trapper. Said he did it for a living. I figured he was a bit windy, but maybe not?
