Looking for opinions on what these boards are. I was thinking either spalted maple or marblecake English walnut but figured someone on here has to know

What's the density like? It looks like hickory to me. The smell should give it away if it's hickory.

Nothing I've seen in NE. I personally think it's too dark for ash but could be hickory.

The color contrast looks like Tulip Poplar but the grain is to rough. Poplar tends to tight smooth grain and not so wild.

Hickory or Pecan is a possible.

Not fine enough grain for elm. Hickory has tighter grain as well. Looks like dead ash to me

I suck at this, but I'd guess butternut, as well.

well don't know the wood but if it is 5 quarter thick I will take it for some fine-looking pot calls.

Weight ratio to the test. How many cubic inches / weight will narrow the scope

the stain looks like a infection from a poor trim job years back

Did you put water on it to show the grain better?
Take a sharp awl to it to check the hardness of the wood. That will help narrow it done.

Yes the second picture is after I put mineral spirits on it to show the grain. I’m putting a second coat of spar on a piece tonight and will have to take a picture. Looks awesome

Appreciate all the responses. I’ll try to weigh a piece to get a weight ratio
