I swear my local metal shop know me too well. Drove in to get some 1/4 hot roll for some cages and when I walked out from paying the guy cutting my rod down says " Aye Don we got some 1" round stock cut offs here for sale ! Bet you could make something for trapping with that !"


Aaannnnd yeah $8 and a few burnt rods later I have a drag for.... something

Check the guys that put up commercial doors, when they make a new pulley system they take the stock and cut usually 2-4 feet off. To them it is just scrape metal that a little fluid replacement would buy for cheep.

I know they are happy to see you coming in .But hey since you are a regular it looks like you may get a few HOT deals!

look for some 3 to 4 inch shafting and make some beaver drowner weights to use or sell. usually 4-6 inches cut off with half a chain link on top works well for me. Most of your steel suppliers will have a book to tell you weights of various materials . also look at buying direct from the local steel distributer. The ones in my area will deliver free if order is over 75 bucks and will take cash,check,card - when the driver delivers (you need a way to unload) ---- my experience with our local scrapyards is that they will charge retail on the remnants that they get in. Why not get 20-24 foot delivered for the same price?

The one steel supply I go to every once in a blue moon has really nice tools on display and also safety supplies.
