Not fine enough grain for elm. Hickory has tighter grain as well. Looks like dead ash to me

Looks alost like weathered oak,,or nut wood like Butternut.Nice grain what ever it is.Im going with weathered oak,,,or,,, nut wood,like Butternut or Wallnut.

Did you put water on it to show the grain better? Take a sharp awl to it to check the hardness of the wood. That will help narrow it done. Yes the second picture is after I put mineral spirits on it to show the grain. I’m putting a second coat of spar on a piece tonight and will have to take a picture. Looks awesome Appreciate all the responses. I’ll try to weigh a piece to get a weight ratio
