Found this today in the creek. Eastern nebraska. Any ideas what this is. Sail vertebrae of some sorts?

Thats the shoulder area vertebrae from a Bison, possibly a Steppe Bison.

a ruler would put perspective of how big it is,
glacial till area you are in so anything is could have been moved there

Long horned bison Bison latifrons has more of a taller vertebrae and was wiped out with the Wisconsin glaciation period

Does not look much like moved in glacial till as the edges are clean

Can you imagine the back-straps coming off a vertibrae that tall......what size of grill would you need ! smile

Most of Britains disease problems in their livestock is because of the millions of pound of bison skeletons sent over there to be ground and used as fertilize their fields

They all did not die of lead bullets in the old west.
just food for thought
