True , by most if not all we have a responsible lot here.
A few years ago I was begged by a friend's 5yo boy for a ride on my motorcycle. With parents permission took him for a bunch of laps around the block. Very few cars on the road , quiet backroad.

Got a couple weird looks for a guy on a Kawasaki Ninja doing 15mph and slower. After a couple laps the neighbors figured out I was giving the 5yo a ride. He was super happy. Made his day.

Are you letting any of them drive yet? My wife doesn't like it but gives me a pass when I let my 9 and q2 year lod drive my truck on back roads. I say they need to know how in case of an emergency. Often we hunt a long way from home in ares with no cell service. If something happens to me they need to be able to get us out and they have been driving 4 wheelers and utvs for years.

Great job grandpa.

I stuck both my son and my daughter driving hay truck or tractor at about 5 - best place for them to learn - I mean what are they going to hurt? Son was a little bit of an issue - he didn't like the speed the truck was going (he was standing on the seat and steering) so he climbed down and put his hand on the gas pedal (of course I was between the truck and the trailer at that time) -- 1 little bunny hop and then the engine died - we then had a discussion about the appropriate edicut for driving a hay truck. Looking forward to having to teach new drivers the ropes if and when i have grandkids.

Being born and spending the first 12 years of my life on a farm I like many others where expected to help with the work .As a 10 or 12 year old I was not physically able to pick up hay or straw bales and load them on a wagon . But my older brothers and sisters could . So my job was to drive the tractor that was pulling the wagon . I needed to stand so I could reach and push the clutch and brake .Teach a kid the right way to do something and they generally follow the rules .
