Just about have my wood shed and our over flow cord wood split and ready to cure for the season. Now to clean up and bag all the good size extra splinters for early fall burning.

Seem to have had much more excess splinter wood this year for some reason. I ran out of empty feed sacs. Just burned a bunch recently since I had so many. Oh well.






My beaver hoops are drying well and have them in their final drying forms. By spring they should be well dried and ready for hooping once again. I can make the final memory bends to them once I have sized up a tanned beaver to fit each one.




Got some real nice antler bases from a friend in Kansas. I also found a couple horn bases from the Red Stag deer native to Poland that I found on line.

These will work nicely for a few knives I am knapping.


I was able to get a photo of the fawn triplets that I saw born a few weeks ago. They have grown and are full of energy now.





The old doe I posted a picture of a few weeks ago I haven't seen for some time. I think the coyotes got her and her fawn. She was getting up in years.

I needed to finish a bunch of wood and my old standby splitter had a bad leaking seal. I finally found a nearby hydraulic shop that does mostly commercial work to agree to rebuild my cylinder.

But yes my new splitter works well and it has been broken in I would say at this point. My boy needs a splitter, so once I reassemble the old one after the repairs he will have a good one for his place. My old splitter has many...... years of service. I did have a new motor put on it a couple years back but runs like a champ now. It must be 30 years old.

Seemed that when my splitter went slow there was lots of splinters from the hardwood pieces.
The wax boxes or the black plastic ones the vegs come in seem to last for several years for all the splinters and they stack nice

Hey Bob, in your other post, the way I read it I thought you said you were tying the vines to beaver hoops to shape them. Did you not do that, or did you already remove the hoops?

Yes, I removed the vines from the metal hoops. It only takes a week or so in warm to hot weather to give the vines the basic memory shape I want.

If I didn't peel the bark off the vines in the beginning it would take longer to dry and form. I have done the cure both ways over the years. I seem to prefer the peeled vine look more.

I am going to try another method of weaving a thin vine around the primary vine to see how it looks for one beaver hoop next spring. I think it would look different.
