I had L4-L5 fused around 15 years ago. Best thing I ever did. Now the S1 at the bottom is giving me a few problems. Has anyone been in the same boat? I believe with the fusion the one above or below has more strain on it. Hoping it won’t be even near as invasive as the first surgery.

Two weeks out from C-5-6 fusion. Can't help with the lower back, My doctor told me this fusion will now cause more wear above and below over the next 10-15 years until further work needed. I am 60. So that would fit with what you are experiencing I believe. When I posted asking question about disc replacements many on here have had fusion so I look forward to your responses.

Been wondering about fusion myself.
How much movement did you lose?
Had cortisone in L5 years ago. helped a lot.
Nowhere near the pain today but still nagging.
sometimes it makes me wince.
just

I lost normal movement from what would be a healthy back but I gained movement from where it hurt all the time and I couldn’t even push the clutch in on my truck. I can’t roll my hips and pop my back like I used to to get relief but up until now I haven’t needed to.

I was referred to a Dr. in Somerset. Supposed to be good. Sure does hurt to sit still up against a tree in the spring. Gravitated towards blinds.

He did mine. El Naggar. One of the top surgeons in the nation. He is hard to get into see. You will be evaluated by one of his nurse practicioners. Either one are great . My wife taught both math In High school. She also taught The Dr's 2 kids. So if it is going to be months before you can get in send me a PM . I'll have her text him or his nurse. It can be good to know people . ! My wife taught ALOT of people's kids algebra in 40 years of high school and college classes....

I started using a folding chair you wear like a back pack...It was designed for dove shooting. Has a little zip in cooler built in.

Had L4/L5 in 2014. Didn’t notice range of motion issues and have been able to go full throttle since. Just now starting to feel the effects of either 3/4 or 5/s1. (Btw, some folks have 5 lumbar, some have 6) Recovery wasn’t too bad, had surgery on 7/1 and was trapping by early Oct.
