I don't know if anyone here " picked " fruits and berries in rum. I use a large mason jar ..... I think this one os about a gallon or so. Just add fruits and berries as the season progresses and keep it topped off with rum and a bit of brown cane sugar. Tases great over vanilla ice cream around Christmas when its ready ..... So far I have straw berries wild raspberries and blackberries in there .... got to get some cherries next
I do all my own stunts ... but never intentionally ... Let's go Brandon

I made a batch for the first time last year. Not rum, grain alcohol.
For some unexplained reason the result was very salty tasting.

According to Wikipedia, it is indeed a German /Austrian tradition. I'm assuming clear rum as opposed to spiced? Dark or black rum but not spiced. Its full of fruit so it must be healthy.

Is that also called a Rumtopf ? This was decades ago, but I somewhat recall my Grandmother mentioning something called a Rumtopf (SP? ) , Her Mom brought the recipe with her ; when she came here from Germany Yes it is the same. Topf means pot in krautish.
