Over the 4th of July I found two Great Plains Toads on my Grandma's farm. My wife and I decided to let our boys keep them as pets, so I've got a terrarium set up for them and have been feeding them crickets that I buy from a co-worker who owns a reptile/pet shop. He doesn't know much about these toads, as he's more of a lizard and snake guy. These suckers can eat! The two toads together would have no problem slurping down two dozen medium crickets in a sitting. I'm sure they didn't eat this much when they were in the wild.

Does anyone else here have toads as "pets"? How much do you feed them? I'm thinking a half-dozen crickets each per day should hold them over, but at the same time, I don't want the buggers to get hungry.

Call me a softy, but nobody likes to feel like they're starving day in, day out.

Saw that one....there's another one or two simple things online, but I also wanted to hear from Trapperman folks....I feel like I "know" you guys and gals here, so it's like asking a friend vs. a stranger.

My son kept a random road he found in the yard for several months. He fed it june bugs and such that he caught, and we had a little thing of water that the toad would sometimes sit in, and I assume would drink from, and it did fine. We ended up letting it go in the fall.

When my sister lived in Wichita, Kansas, they had a toad that just showed up, and lived under a rock near the built in garage door. The night light would draw moths and June bugs and it was a very fat and sassy toad., and was almost friendly. LOL
