I have a group of traps that where sitting outside in a bin which the cover broke on and filled with water. Short story short, they are rusted tight. Looking to clean them up with some vinegar.
Question is what ration of baking soda to water (gallon) to neutralize the vinegar?

No ratios for me baking soda is so cheap just empty a box into a fresh tub of water then toss your traps in for an hour. Rinse off and you'll be fine

no need to neutralize vinegar. after you soak your traps in it a few days just rinse them off with water. check all the springs. after they rust real bad some will be weak and need replaced. after you get the springs checked, set and fire them all doing any needed adjustment, filing etc, treat them. boil in logwood or walnuts or paint them or dip them.

Tannic acid(logwood powder/quebracho) is what blackens your traps when boiling. That will neutralize any trace alkali left on traps from vinegar.

If you're in a wierd part of the country that doesn't have hard water, theres enough to calcium bi/carbonate in the water to mildly neutralize the vinegar. Once you see the bubbling stop, the traps are neutralized.

I’d get a cheap box of baking soda. It’s plenty. They rust amazingly fast again if you don’t give them a good bath in a basic solution.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I know that's the traps will start to rust again after the vinegar wash without neutralization. Good to know about hard water, unfortunately water at camp is soft, soft, soft. So to be sure will take the extra dip in some baking soda.
