Till it deep and lots of compost or fertile soil, once your asparagus use top grade starts and add preemergent herbicide to keep out weeds. Mulch every fall to keep the roots from freezing I have been growing it for years and this system always worked for me.

Yep. Deep trenches and lots of organics. Give each plant some elbow room

Easiest way would be to buy new roots, you could dig up
some of what you have and divide it and replant, either
way you still have to wait until the second year to pick.

I had some success starting from seed this year , start in small pots , they need to be warm to germinate , keep them watered

it takes longer than buying roots

time will tell ,this was my first time starting with seeds only have done the roots in the past

start tilling the area you intend to plant every 3-4 weeks it ill loosen it and as you turn up weed seeds and they germinate you will have fewer weeds to deal with later

Let it seed out. I've got asparagus in my garden that was there when we bought the house. I've tried digging it out and getting rid of it because it migrates so easily, but it seems to spring up everywhere. It's even started growing in my yard, 30' away from the garden!

We have community gardens where I live. We have two plots. A neighbor passed away and we are maintaining his. Next year we are going to surrender our shady garden and move to the neighbor’s plot. We will have to move our asparagus. It winter the best time?

Please do not dig up an existing bed of asparagus to move it a few feet. Leave it for someone else and start over with new roots. You still have to wait two years, so save some growing time.

Deer have all but wiped out my asparagus beds. They nip off the tops almost as soon as they come up.

We always used salt water from making home made ice cream to keep the weeds out of aspergrass. A treatment every several years does wonders. Love my aspergrass!
