I collect books on the early western US. Like you mostly first editions and rare copies. From Lewis and Clark through the Mountain men, oregon trail and up to the early 1900's such as Teddy Roosevelt. I have a LOT of books.
I don't just collect them I read them I am currently reading Across The Wide Missouri by Bernard Devoto. Very good in-depth info and well written. Bernie You read the rising tide by John Barry it's very interesting history about the Mississippi river system.

You bet I do! In first edition no less. I also have a copy of White Hunter (his first book), Hunters Tracks and African Bush Adventures all by J.A. Hunter. I do think Hunter is the best of the bunch, though I think it is in the top 5 of African Hunting books as well.

I collect books. All hardcover and mostly first edition. I’ve got some rare ones. I’m in the process of converting a spare bedroom into a library now.
Eh...wot?

Lugnut you sound like me. Hoping to finish the basement this year and put my library down there. I already need another Big bookcase

I read a lot. A little bit of everything. But, mostly mysteries. I like the old Sherlock Holmes stuff. Some of my favorite authors would be Baldacci, Flynn, Child, etc. I love all the Jack Reacher stories. Still can't believe they cast Tom Cruise in the role of Jack Reacher in the movies!

I forgot all about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes, one of the first actual novels I remember reading was "Hound of the Baskervilles" . I nee dot find a nice edition of the collected stories.
Best portrayal of Holmes in my opinion was Jeremy Brett. He was the personification of Holmes!
For sheer "summer recreational reading" just enjoying the story and its blatant impossibilities I like the Dirk Pitt and Oregon Series by Clive Cussler

Mike my mistake, I couldn't remember the two initials. J A not J S OK then. I read that book many years ago at deer camp. Later on I found one at used book store in CA and bought it for $7.25 back in '03. I believe mine is a first edition too, printed in '52. I'm not a book nut so I could be wrong. Its not in the best shape but its more than good enough for reading.

Here is my 1952 copy of “Hunter”. I like the inside cover.
And who could forget Art Neumann?

Miketraps2, I think you suggested “heat, thirst, and ivory” by Everett. I am reading it now, very good! Got it through inter library loan.
