I worked for UPS for almost 27 years (retired 2 weeks ago). UPS has the best tracking system out there. As far as cost, it really depends on where you are shipping, size and weight. Size is a big factor. I was able to see the operation from all angles. Top notch service, but, you pay for the service UPS provides. I do receive packages from both UPS and Fed Ex. As I first said, the tracking is tops.

Fed Ex here in Fairbanks at least for my location. 11:00 the plane comes in and they give me a call, great service! UPS has only special hours and I don’t get deliveries until 8:00 or 9:00pm. It’s the opposite in other parts of the country!
Now days it’s not so much the carrier it’s the shipper!

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!
I've had good service and crap service from both, and crap especially from the USPS. Seems like every time the price of postage goes up, the quality level of service goes down!

Beware! Jill Pudlewski, Ron Oates and Keven Begesse are liars and thiefs!
We have had occasion to use both. FedEx pretty much ruins a box of frozen fish from Alaska every year. Have not had problems with UPS. For the amount of business I do with USPS, I've had very few problems, although they are expensive. I guess if it wasn't for their "wokeness" I'd probably do more business with UPS.
I have far less problems with UPS than I do with FedEx. I have a shipment of 5.56 ammo on the way from Palmetto State Armory and was glad to see that they shipped it UPS.
Guess it all depends where you live. My UPS guy is the best out there. He delivers whatever I order, no questions asked, lol. He even calls me to meet him if it’s something he thinks the wife might not need to know about. In fact, the wife and I went to lunch yesterday and he came in so we bought his lunch without him knowing. I’ve never had a continuous FedEx driver, but I’ve never had orders be late.
UPS delivers to my place about four days a week. Good guys. The Fed Ex guys….they either throws my packages out where the driveway meets the highway, or they’ll turn the truck around in my flower bed. Or my packages end up at the neighbors house. Every driver they send is a jerk.
I think Wanna Be said it best - depends on where you are.
Both UPS and FedEx can be really good. Both UPS and FedEx can be really bad. And everything in between. Bad apples in both companies give every one a bad name.
Over all - I don’t think one is better than the other. IMO
UPS is way better IMO. Their tracking is far more accurate and they deliver sooner on average. Both will get the stuff there eventually and fed ex is a little cheaper usually. Honestly if I were shipping low priority stuff I'd use FedX but if I was receiving packages I'd hope they were sent UPS.
Ups by far better. FedEx damages most all the packages and if they don't have several packages to deliver in our area it may take 2 weeks to get your package
