Had a yard sale , couple people had these pickups in 4 door models, say they love them. Anyone on here have n run one. I have a Subaru Outback now, but want to retire next year n get a new vehicle, just think this may be a good option with a cap on the back. Also want to get a kayak, this could fit in the back.

Thanks. John

You can't do better than a Toyota in my opinion. Best money I ever spent on a truck.

Your kayak will hang out the back. I put 3 in my old 97 ranger hanging out the back . If your planing on a camper shell get a rack on top for the kayak.

I just sold my 2013 regular cab 4x4and bought a 2022 double cab 4x4. Also went from the 4 cyl. to the V-6. Fuel mileage between the two is very similar at 21-22 mpg but the V-6 has a lot more power. While I like my small Toyotas for general everyday driving, I keep a 3/4 ton truck for real truck work like pulling heavy loads.

My wife has a F150 land tank, she likes it but it’s a pretty girl truck. If I get a cap it will have racks on top.

I have a 2010 Access Cab (read: extended cab).

I really like it, but there are two things I don't love:

1. it's a four cylinder; thus, not much power.
B. the access cab floor is only good for people's feet...it has two many distinct levels. (had to take out the jump seats and have a plywood platform made so the dog could ride comfortably behind me)

having said that...it's NOT for sale!

Very reliable, but the bed size is horrible, but so are the full size trucks with crew cab. If you want a truck for truck things, get a truck with a 6 foot bed.

I have a 2011 access cab V6 manual. It has a cap with a rack on top. I also carry a yak. As I get older, I put it in the bed instead of on the rack. I have an extender that hooks up to the hitch. Makes carrying and loading the yak a breeze. Love the truck. It’s kinda thirsty for a V6.

I have a 2022 Toyota Tacoma Extra Cab. It now has 12000 miles on it. I only drive Toyota’s because its the only truck I can find that I can drive from Alabama to New Mexico and trap out of without worry of break downs. Had a 98 that had 344 k milea on it one. From 16 to almost 50. Toyota trucks are what I by.

I'm not near as much of a fan of my newer 06 Tacoma compared to my 98 but I can't afford to drive a Ford Chevy or Mopar.... Toyotas are expensive to buy an maintain but they just keep going. Wife swears by her highlander over other suvs

This one is 22 years old with 722,000+ miles and still going strong.

This is when it had about 100,000 miles on it

I own a 2020 Tacoma with the access cab. Almost identical to Steeltraps except the wheels. Absolutely no complaints and it is the 4 cylinder.

Wow. 722 k is impressive!!! I basically = gave my 98 Extra Cab to my good friends son. Took 1800 for it. Allowed his son to pay me off over summer. While he worked. That was few years ago. Truck is at 412 k now. That 3.4 is a great motor. I keep the timing belt and water pump changed ever 100 k and oil and breaks when they needes changing. No other problems. And I keep my Toyota in woods trapping

i missed out on the frame recall but had the frame plated by a friend whos a fabricator. they sell weld on plates for under a hundred bucks. that said, ive freighted my 04 taco extended cab with cord wood more times than i can count, no broken springs, no frame issues. i wouldnt trade it for anything.

Have you applied to get your man card back yet ?
Subaru Outback ? Lol you have to send in your card at the time of purchase

I drove one for years. Great truck but went to a Chevy because I got a full sized truck and had the same gas mileage But yota will run for ever

Everybody can’t be as awesome as you jbyrd. Those Subaru’s can scoot around in some pretty rough spots at 30 mpg. My wife has a Honda CR-V that I like to drive, better send in my man card too eh.

If your going to put a cap on the back a minivan would be a better choice. Minivans have much more room to carry larger stuff.
My wife has Honda Odessey that is much better for the vast majority of uses that pickups see these days. I have owned several pickups in my life and other than a few specific cases that alot of people never have to worry about I'd get a minivan before I'd mess with a pickup. Only exception is if I want to haul some large heavy stuff. And then I'd look at a older used one instead of the newer ones that are geared more for soccer moms than the working man.
Better gas mileage, able to haul 7 adults comfortably, carry 4 x 8 sheets and 10 ft boards handles and rides better. Better in the snow than a 2wd pickup.

And they are available with awd so they are every bit as good if not better than a pickup on bad road conditions.

Anyone who connects what he drives with his "man card" has lost his man card long ago.
