What is your Timber prices. I was quoted 40 dollars a ton for Oak logs, Prime pine logs 25, regular pine logs 18, Oak pulp wood 4 and pine Pulp 1 dollar. I knew it was down but did not know it was down that much.

We just got 50 for pine poles but these were big poles. Everything else wasn't worth cutting.

If prime pine logs are like our select cut, then you’re getting a low price. Warriors price is inline with what the plantation just got. But these were some pretty big pines, we counted 77 rings on one of the trees.

I am in Calhoun county. These prime logs are way to big for poles. They are huge. I just bought this property that they are on. Just thinking about clearing it, the timber will pay for the land. It joins my property and it is in town. So it will basically be free land if I clear it.

You're about outside the area I usually work in. I assume the prime pine is peeler logs.
If it was mine I would sit on it until winter when timber on good ground is at a premium.

Also, I don't know the acreage. If it is small then you may be limited on which crews would be willing to move there

How many acres? If not enough to justify hauling equipment in they might as well be worthless, especially with the cost of diesel these days.

It is a small acreage but the man that offered those prices is cutting property next door so he is already here.
Wallace: getting into the area in winter would be a problem.

That price is a little low but with small acreage you probably won’t ever get any better. I’m assuming there are also obstacles to have to maneuver such as power lines, fences, limited decking areas, etc. That all adds to the logging costs. Loggers willing to mess with small private acreage are pretty scarce these days.

Sounds like you have your answer.
Those prices aren't that much off area wide averages. And with small acreage the difference will be small.

If possible, put up a camera and count loads. Ask for scale tickets for every load. Make sure you are there when they finish the neighbor and start on you.
I'm sure they are on the up and up, but it doesn't hurt to be careful

Thanks for the advise. Looks like I will have a nice clove field behind my house next year now. In a way I hate to cut it but if I do not the way my luck goes we will have a storm and half of it will be on the ground one morning and I will be left with nothing. Might as well have it cut while they are next door.
