That model 99 was a sure enough dandy in 308

That is strange. It seems to me their CEO said a while back they wouldn't go back to the 99 because it would be cost prohibitive.Of course, maybe their not coming back with a modern 99

I read that there was talk of lengthening the action to handle larger caliber ammunition They actually did that and made one in 30/06 and one in 270 as prototypes they auctioned one off for charity and he other is on display at there corporate offices I always thought the 99 would be fantastic chambered in some of the short mag cartridges

Chambered in 358 I have a couple different 99s including the me in 358 and yes it’s a deer hammer it’s also kind of rare in that caliber and when you find it expensive, mine was a hand me down from a child less uncle who adopted our family when my dad died

I always thought they were the ugliest levers ever made. Mine is a 308 but shoots about a 3" group at 100 so it never leaves the house.

My dad’s model 99 was a 308, which he gave to my son. All of mine were 250/3000, which my son now has. We sold the 308 and the other 250/3000 when I moved to Illinois where rifles are not allowed for deer hunting. Probably should have kept the takedown one, but didn’t.
