Ok guys, it has been over 20 years since I broke in a glove. I bought one for my son for his birthday. Now if I remember correctly and this is what I'm doing so far lather it in shaving cream tying it up with a ball in the pocket. I spent good money on this glove, so we are working with good leather and I don't believe it will take to long to break it in, just stiff for his hands to close. I know alot of you guys are leather workers so thought maybe have a quick tip on soften and breaking it in.

only way to break one in is use it. if its good leather though it will last many years. there aint no shortcuts

P.S. neats foot oil once in a while to keep the leather from drying out

That's pretty well how I remembered it just use it... We been playing catch nightly I guess I'll just wait it out.

I know some guys arent a fan of it but Hot Glove did the trick well if tou needed it broke in fast. Oiling the crap out of it and using it works fine when your between seasons.

Mink oil, wrap a ball in it, tie it up and let it sit.

long time baseball coach here. I've broke in a lot of gloves using Hot Glove or shaving cream baked in an oven at low temp with a ball wrapped in the pocket, But, there's more than one way to get the job done.

Will say that you dont want to use Hot Glove on a thin glove or you'll have a noodle. Its better on heavier gloves.

I never oiled mine. I just put a ball in the pocket and used rubber bands that were laying around the house to banned it up when I wasn't using it

I'd use Obenauf's grease way before putting mink oil on it since you spent the money to get a good glove now it's time to spend some more for a, quality product to protect and preserve it and mink oil isn't what you want sorry to say .
A large tub of Obenauf's is around $ 16.00 and money well spent it works great on sealing up work boots and won't eat up the stitching or leather .

I leave my daughter's new softball gloves turned palm out (not inside out, but hard to describe) laying in a hotspot in the yard or the dash of my truck. This helps, but use is the best.

I take a small 3 or 5 lb dumbell and beat the ever loving heck out of the pocket in the glove. Then (depending on if you want a single crease or a heel/thumb double crease), I pound on the palm and down through the heel rolling it back and forth. Some people like to use hot water while they do this as well, but I don't. Then just playing a lot of catch.

Thanks guys I have some ideas now I can try a few things. I seen those Rawlings kits but like every thing else wasn't sure if it would work, or a gimmick.

I used to use leather oil ball in pocket rubber band shut. At night glove goes between mattress and box spring. Day time beat the tar out of the glove thrown it in the air. Thrown on ground, against a post.
I loved breaking in gloves

Way Back when I was a goalie…..took my glove and threw in in a tub of hot water and let it soak…then played catch with it ( in the summertime) …then pour neetsfoot oil all ovah it.

Neets foot oil is all I used as a kid. We keep gallons of it for harness leather and horse collars. Still use it today on belts, gun slings, and deck shoes.
