any one else here into old kickers? here's some of mine ive restored over the last couple years. a few of them are close to 100 years old. takes me about 40 hours each. the old ruddertwin was double that. keeps me out of trouble somewhat.[Linked Image]

some of the old ones are not bad finding parts for but the rarer ones can be a nightmare!

Pair of 58 Elgins. One runner, one donor.
Couple others hanging in barn waiting to be "found".
Quite a few old 2 stroke saws also.
Old stuff rocks.

I’ ve got an old 2.5 Elgin my dad won in a crap game when he was in the Navy. Guy didn’t have the money and asked if dad would take the outboard, dad loved to fish so that wasn’t a problem. This would have been in the early/ mid 50’s. I haven’t ran it in years but with a little tlc I bet it would fire right off.

I don’t go back that far! Lol But I’ve redone several older Johnson’s from 1952 to early 80s. Their all users. Last big project was a 72 50th anniversary edition 25hp. Recently brought a 1969 4hp back to life for a customer. It would start by spinning the flywheel with your hand after everything got dialed in. These old motors amaze me, sure don’t make anything like em in todays throw away world.

Those bring back some memories.

Funny how memories work. Years ago I was getting a ‘52-54 Evinrude 3hp Light Twin ready for a trip. Had it out in the test tank for first start up after tuning. As always on first starts, it created a plume of blue smoke you couldn’t see through. About that time my daughter, then 10, walked right into the smoke and took a deep whiff. She looked at me and said Ahhhh, Canada! Lmao. Of course we were still here in Nebraska, she turned 24 yesterday and that is still the smell of Canada in her mind.

No carb help as mine are 7.5s.
You spoke at the right place, fixers for anything on here.
Briggs and straton lawn mower coils do work on the Elgin, with a little "fitting".

Newest outboard I own is an ‘84. Not counting long tail mud motors. I love the old stuff. Last count was around a dozen running Johnson/Evinrudes from 2hp to 85hp. As well as several “donors”. Here’s a few pics of some I have here. Rest are at the cabin in Canada, at least they were last time I was there!

I collect old chainsaws and have a bunch of Tillotson carbs. I found a Tillotson MD 60A in my stash of old carbs. I don't know if it will work for you or not. I think it came off an old Mall chainsaw.
