no acorns started for this year? no buds for acorns next year? don't think its an oak. nothing like that grows here unless its a sassafras that is in full sun.

My phone app says it is possibly a tupelo (Nyssa Sylvatica).

"My feeling is this, give him plenty of time, plenty of birds, and a little direction, and he'll hunt his heart out for me. That's all I ask."

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

Not like any bark I've seen around here. Thanks for the pic!

Leaves look a lot like a Live Oak.
Bark too, except for the scaly area which looks like damage of some sort.

Black gum. If you look at the branches they don't fork like most trees. They will be angled at 90 degrees or more. Really makes it hard to stack the brush. Very stringy and hard to split also.

Y'all may be right as the leaves resemble gum but the bark definitely does not. Or at least the black gum I know.

What I know as black gum does not have bark that flakes. It's more blocky like a persimmon.

I'm all ears! It is oak country with a sawtooth on one side and a white oak on the other.
