Wolfdog said he would not be offended if I posted this. Its just another idea. Made from an electric fence post. 2-3 bucks at any farm store. I heat it where I want it to bend with a MAPP gas torch.

Can just grab the rod and pull to set the hook

The angle in the picture is a bit deceiving. It is a lot closer to parallel with the ground than it looks. Only a slight bend upward.

U using a circle hook without free spool or letting the fish take it a while? Ive went back and forth but tend to go back to letting them run with the clicker, closing the freespool wirh the tip up and once i feel a decent load in the rod hammering them.

I am not a big circle hook fan. I quit using them. Yes I tighten down the casting control to prevent back lash and leave the spool released. Don't use the clicker either. Pick up the rod, turn the crank to lock it, let it tighten up a bit and set the hook.

The secret to circle hooks is matching the size you use to the size of fish you are targeting. I haven't found one yet which will hook a bowfin. They have oddly shaped bony faces. No problem since a Kale hook works great on them. Not worth eating, but they have a lot of fight in them.
