Who still works this way? For me, it doesn't. Just lost a long term client to per beaver thinking. Had a new person take over and someone convinced them this is the way to go.
For 4 years, they were very satisfied with the results. Here today, gone tomorrow.
I know the area, just don't see how its profitable per beaver with time, gas, maintenance, taxes, insurance.I got the area cleaned up. And now they get the gravy.
Time will tell, if they call next year. Dig deep, real deep in them pockets.

If I were trapping problem beaver here it would not, could not make sense to charge per beaver. There simply isn’t a dense enough population for there to be enough beaver on one property to make that profitable. I’d have to charge $600 a beaver to come out in the black

They wanted $75.00 per beaver. That just doesnt pay the bills. I told them good luck. Didn't burn any bridges
I'd be trapping for free after expenses.

Its worth it if you charge enough. Just need to really be good with your ability to estimate the number of beaver in the colony. I like weekly-biweekly flate contracts where possible.

Even at $100 that would be tough to make work.

All our contracts are $85 per beaver, $ .75 per km with a maximum of 5 trips. $50 per dam removed under mutual agreement, and contracts expire 2 weeks after issue.

Last time I worked as an agent trapping beaver full time was 2012.
I was paid $28/hr with full benefits including pension,4 days a week,10 hour days and 4 hours overtime per day at time and one half.per diems were $120 per day and everything was paid by the company-truck fuel traps lure and equipment.

Sarge, You can’t control how some folks think. Let the beaver do their thing...they will be calling you back.
I raised my rates again and no one has even blinked.

Boco, with those numbers and benefits. Then a southern trapper could possibly make a living.
These folks didn't consider mileage or nothing else. No set or take down. Flat 75 from start to finish.
Very tough. I wish them luck. Time will tell. Sarge

Personally I think per beaver is a terrible way to do business. Mostly newbies, amateurs and the like will do it that way from what I've seen. I learned long ago to charge for my time and mileage. And no reason to just scrape by....charge enough to make it worthwhile. All the professionals in their fields find out how to make money. Should we be any different?

I raised my rates…

90.00 set up fee

90.00 per head

.65 cent per mile

Don’t travel outside of the 30 minute radius

If traps go quiet for 2 checks …I pull them on the third day and collect my CASH .

No complaints yet…And most say…” Iam happy you showed up !”

Now I'm hooked on trapping. Coyotes are my next quest. It'll take me a little longer to figure them out I'm sure. Got a lot of bobcats that need to go too. Just watched the fur price update video and it sounds good for bobcats.

Still run into the old thinking. "You'll make money on the hides" I always tell and show the lastest fur market. And they say"its not worth it.
They dont realize its a business, not a hobby. Again, time will tell. Sarge

Yup….I check traps at lunch time…Iam self employed in the Autobody business…so it’s not a full time gig for me. If I can catch a few beaver (180.00) while eating my Sammich at lunch time …got me some B.A.M…..Bumming around money.

Sgt. C,
If you cleaned that place up then that next trapper is gonna be hurting in the wallet in a few days.

I still charge by the beaver for a large timber company (been trapping for this company for more than 2 decades.) I also charge by the beaver for locals within 15 minutes of my residence.

I charge $100/beaver. No setup fee.

Most of my beaver jobs are a flat rate per job with 10 day minimum of trapping (I may have to stay a few more days if spooky beaver, but no extra charge. Works out to +/- $200 per day.

Beaver jobs that are more than an hour from my residence are flat rate plus $1/mile both ways....same time frame.

Dam breaching is free. Dam removal is extra, if I can even do it per site.

It's tough, Years ago I had a client that I removed Beaver for eight years, I charged at the time 85.00 set up per two traps & 25.00 per each extra trap & 75.00 per Beaver. As everyone knows, Summer trapping is rough. I raised my prices to 125.00 set up & 100.00 per Beaver, I informed him of the price increase. I sent him an invoice & he paid me. Thats the last time I heard from him. This year I had to step up prices again, It's not just fuel prices, It's vehicle up keep & just the cost of everything going up. I see some local companies charge crazy prices, Had a Doctor call me about squirrels chewing thru his fascia board, Said he had a local company put an extruder over a chew hole for three days, Came back & sealed the hole with foam & wire, Gave him a 1,800.00 bill.

Not going to disclose specific billing structure on a public forum, however I don’t incorporate a setup fee or a per beaver fee.

I add a $50 trailer hook up fee if it’s an area I need to take the quad in.
