We're hearing that the castor market is sliding a bit so it made me think about what alternatives we may have in selling our castor next year.

What about castor scented candles? Castor infused soaps? Castor flavored spirits? Medicine for those inclined to believe in natural remedies? Straight up tinctures for sale?

I'll be with a little marketing savvy some of the value added products may go well if the effort was put out.

There is someone in either Vt. or NH. that make castor infused whiskey. Hopefully another member will chime in.

I think they use it to make vanilla- probably not the kind I can afford.

Plenty of various castor-based products here, mostly focused on its various actual and mythical therapeutic properties. There are tinctures, ointments, cosmetic creams, teas, capsules and even suppositories. These products often combine castoreum and other natural (presumably) biologically active substances: mumiyo/shilajit, propolis, various medicinal plants such as ginseng or marsh cinquefoil, and even immature antlers.

I don't know if it will open from US IP adresses, but here's a link to a page on a Russian product aggregator website with castoreum products. It's all about marketing, I doubt that there is any actual evidence of their efficacy, yet they're readily available in most pharmacies and health stores, online and offline, meaning that you can get people to believe and buy this stuff....

There's even a detailed "legend" circulating on many of the manufacturer's websites, about humane castoreum collection, to fool sensitive city-dwellers apparently, that there are farms where beavers are kept, with special castoreum-capturing devices that rely on beavers' marking behavior...

Interesting stuff Tatiana. I know I'm not the only one that really enjoys the odor which is why I was thinking infused candles or soaps. Come to think of it....a castor scented candle would put me in the mood...if nothing else, the mood to catch some more beaver!
