mostly range toy they could be useful for HD less so for hunting
they have an interesting recoil pulse because they are primarily direct blow back there are not direct blow back but mine is direct blow back
they are crazy fun and surely a 10.5 inch barrel would give you about all the velocity your going to get out of a 9mm
so from the ability to put 9mm rounds on target stupid fast like 2x the speed of a pistol yes
from the point of view that a gas operated rifle like an AR in 5.56 or 300blackout would be a little more dependable combat arm
pros less cost per round you can train in close on steel safely >25 feet where you can not with 5.56 feeding the same ammo as your handgun in my case sharing mags with my handgun less blast than the 10.5 5.56 or the 16 inch 5.56 can be shot on the indoor range
con it is a pistol round it just doesn't have the energy of a rifle round direct below back no last round hold open
so if you put it against a rifle it just doesn't do rifle things as well
but if you put it up against the pistol other than conceal ability it does pistol stuff great

I read many have had feeding problems. That was a while back maybe it's been worked out. I have seen some choke in competition it tends to be mag related most of the time and isn't limited to AR-9 it is a PCC thing the are mostly trying to run some sort of 40ish round mags when I have seen issues if you fed it from glock factory mags it would likely be a lot less of an issue the issues seem to get greater when you have mag extensions and start to wear out recoil springs it is all just spring pressure making the whole gun run I haven't had any feed issues but glock 33 rounds sticks is the biggest thing I try and feed mine from I am also not into high round count with it yet. I can't run my braced pistol in competition so it is mostly a range toy for fun. competition requires you SBR it or have 16 inch length.

I would go with a Ruger PC9 if I was going to go with a rifle in 9mm. Or a PC Charger if you want compactness.

I went with the Blem this one https://palmettostatearmory.com/ble...er-black-uses-glockr-style-magazine.htmland I am running a 10.5 blem upper if your watch for the blems , you can save some money I got mine last year here is a complete pistol blem https://palmettostatearmory.com/blem-psa-gen4-10-5-9mm-1-10-lightweight-m-lok-moe-sba3-pistol.htmlthe have right now. the SBA3 brace is adjustable in and out for 2 clicks maybe 3 it limits you to not exceed 12 inches of length of pull to stay compliant as a braced pistol which for a short guy like you shouldn't be an issue in wanting any longer with optic the PSA 10.5 is weighing in at 5 pounds 15 ounces the ruger with the adjustable stock is 7.3 naked and they are more expensive than they were when they came out the base model can be had for 599 but it is more like 800 for the rail and pistol grip now. the charger is 5.2 naked they are all good options I like the Ergos of the AR9 as a training tool I can run on the indoor range or on steel at 25 feet or beyond so everything is where it should be the mag is just a different shape but not an unfamiliar shape so they fit in my regular glock mag pouches.

In that category the cmmg banshee looks quite interesting. Never seen one in the flesh but the online/youtube reports talk it up a good bit. they are cool they have the Radial delay blow back system that is supposed to make the recoil pulse more normal. that coolness has a price tag remember if your building and playing with options a pistol can go back and forth long/short barrel but a rifle can not every have a short barrel without a completed form1 and tax stamp. when we build (we only build for us family) we make everything from others and make them all pistols first by attaching a pistol upper and pistol buffer tube , it takes a few extra minutes but meets the letter of the law and leaves all options open.

Brigade braced AR9 pistol with a 4inch barrel and an osprey dot sight, runs like a dream and can make accurate hits at an easy 100 yards While I prefer running standard capacity mags in it I have many of the 33 round ones and a few of the drum mags and so far all have run flawlessly through it, I originally bought it back during the peaceful protest so I could carry it loaded in the vehicle just in case, it has proven to be not only a reliable but also a fun gun to shoot I also have a kel tech sub 2000 which also takes glock mags, and while it’s a decent gun I also found it kicks a lot more then one would expect from a 9mm firearm, or at least it felt that way to me and I’m not one to really be recoil sensitive but I also wouldn’t sell or trade it because It’s a perfect camp gun for summer camping trips where it spends more time folded up in my pack then anything else Wolfdog I’d your feeling the itch go ahead and scratch it, i don’t think you will be disappointed, while many of the commercial ones are a bit pricey in my preferred AR style there not that hard to build from off the shelf parts using a standard AR lower and a mag insert, in made one last year as a gift for my brother as a 10 inch barrel pistol for his bday and he loves it, perhaps his most shot firearm

Alright thanks y'all. Seems like a better deal then a.22lr AR. Would it v better to build or just buy and upper though ? depends what is your goal? PSA uppers come with barrel and BCG which is nice if your on a budget , you also know fitted to the matching PSA lower it works. AR-9 unlike AR-15 are NOT mill spec so not everything fits different companies do things different ways if you want a training and for fun 22lr that is still decently accurate https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1003439552?pid=822037the barrel mounts in a standard AR mill spec upper and you can run it with CMMG or black dog mags 254+tax if you get free shipping 75-80 for an upper , 75-80 for a hand guard you could build a 22lr upper for fun and practice that fit on your mill spec ar-lower but yes about 400 and change for a 22lr that uses your lower 538 + shipping and tax will get you the two halves to a ready to pin together PSA AR-9 this is from what I can see what I bought last year at about this price the lower ships to your FFL the upper to your house. add in what ever fee your dealer charges for transfers mine was 25 or 30 I don't recall exactly. https://palmettostatearmory.com/eas...ight-m-lok-railed-upper-with-bcg-ch.htmlhttps://palmettostatearmory.com/ble...er-black-uses-glockr-style-magazine.html

In that category the cmmg banshee looks quite interesting. Never seen one in the flesh but the online/youtube reports talk it up a good bit. Here are a couple of Banshee's, black gun is a 9 mm, green gun is a 10 mm. They take glock mags, 33 round sticks for the 9 and 30 round stick for the 10. The 9 fits into most backpacks, the wife has a Vertis backpack for hers.
