Can of worms opened.

Whether you like Clint or not I don't care. I looked forward to his youtube videos whether I agreed or not, but he hasn't posted a video in over a year. What's the latest on Clint?

Personally, a trapper can be the worst SOB to walk the line. If he or she has caught a few and willing to talk about it I'm willing to listen. Then filter it out and hope for a nugget or two.

But those unwilling to talk unless paid I tend to put on ignore.

I’ve found that I can learn from anyone. May not agree with them on everything, but I generally come away learning a little something. It doesn’t matter experience or age either.

I don't really understand the animosity toward Clint....Lots of trappers are opinionated and passionate about there mode of operation.

I have no reason to not like him.

Don’t know much if anything about him. I seem to recall he was a proponent of using BIG traps for coyotes? Not sure. But I don’t get the animosity either.

He did the polar opposite of alot of trapping norm and a lot of folk can't stand him for it. Stuff like CDR's on try land for cats, putting traps in the back of dirt holes , multiple traps at sets, his teachers of the night series, so on and so on. Deal is though if you listen to his podcasts he has no problem saying what h d do different now days ,why he did things , alot of peoel just want to try and make what he did as simple as " he's just can guide animals " or "he's such a bad trapper he HAS to use these big traps" when in reality there more too it then that.

That and the guy kinda brought some " rock and roll" to trapping and alot of the older generation didn't like that at all.

There's always gonna be haters.

...and haters are jealous.

Clint has produced some good catch numbers and developed some great trapping ideas and products.

I respect his willingness to be so open with out of the box thinking. That and his don't give flying rat what others think attitude about it.

When I was in the office, I would listen to his podcast regularly. It was his fault I got onto a bone broth kick for a while

I’ve considered setting big traps for coyotes and cats. Never have, but I look at my bridger #5 double longsprings I used to trap beaver with collecting dust and it crosses my mind. It is legal here.

Also, I have set two traps at one set a few times, and I caught coyotes that way. I don’t see the problem with doing that, caught is caught, the fur buyer or adc client don’t care whether or not you caught it the “right” way.

Sounds like people just don’t like him because he does things different and doesn’t care what anyone’s opinion is about it.

I dont know anything about him,but if he is - animals with too big of traps for the target I can see where a ton of trappers would be against that-especially if he is publicly advocating stuff like that-that sort of thing is a death knell for trapping.
But as I said,I dont know anything about the guy so dont know if that is the case or not-just a guess based on what has been brought up on this thread.

He's not doing any such thing. Hes running highly modified traps that surpass the BMP requirements.

Bigger traps have their place. Guys trapping in adverse conditions, snow, etc. Tend to use bigger traps than is necessary in ideal conditions, whereas guys trapping around a lot of domestics etc. Sometimes use smaller traps than is ideal for the target animal. Depends on the situation and the trapper needs to be sharp enough to tailor his approach and equipment for his situation. I don't know anything about Clint, have never listened to him or watched him. I do know I tend to use a trap big and stout enough to hold the largest furbearer I expect might step in it. Usually around here that is a wolf. So if I a primarily targeting coyotes I will still usually set something like a 650 or I've been thinking of getting some of those NOBS Canine extremes, I've known several guys to hold wolves in them. If I am setting primarily for wolves I will go with a larger more ideal trap for them. I've caught a number of coyotes in MB750s and Sleepy Creek 4 1/2s and there feet were fine, I could release them if I wished with no worries. And they are the same jawspread as a CDR. On the other hand I've caught a few in modified TS85s and they are hard on coyote feet.

Nope. He'd post pics and videos of cats yotes coon ect in a MODIFIED CDR ,big pan huge lamination job and they looked better then most people I've seen in unmodified small traps and folks where automatically going " nope nope nope what he's not showing is all the injured ones !!"
Then you go and talk to people who have done THE SAME not a half butted imitation, and they give the same reports. Heck I know a guy who used to live market with basically the same set up and the only reason he stopped using them was because of black bear.
Here the deal though he's point blank said in podcasts that he was using those in extremely specalized situations. Main on these big game ranches where they where getting paid to kill any and everything and when cats where bringing big money. Point blank said he won't advise using them in most places in the east. Mainly because a non target caught in a CDR just don look good even if their foot is completely fine ,which is understandable. Now he tells people just to use a bridger 3 or whatever you want really.
Kinda like how OGorman talked about using modified bridger fives for deep snow cat trapping
Also he does t just use every big trap he explains that too
He's basically out generation O'Gorman.Funny thing you can do. Talk about methods he does and use his name then talk about the same one and use somone else name and watch . Same idea same concept with one name peoeil will rant and talk a out how foolish it is till the cows come home different name , crickets

But regardless of that the guy has probably put out more free info in the form of his podcast where he interviews other trappers like mark zagger ,Wayne Derrick, Alan propst, Claudie Taylor Casey Payne and a bunch of others along with talking about stuff he's researched, people he's taken instruction from so on and so on then anyone else in the industry. And he really tries to promote peoel thinking out the box and for themselves, not to just believe everything he says word for word.

Got to spend time with Clint and his wife a few years ago fishing of all things. We had a great time and conversation. I know he was in the process of moving and really tied up in trying to expand his business. Got to see him and Travis his sidekick at the SouthEast Regionals that same year. We had a lot of interesting conversations. I found him very easy to talk with and he shares a lot of information that actually had nothing to do with his business. I think he does mainly run CDR's and big double longs. I know he was was really pulling back from his damage control work focusing on his business. He had some other folks handling that side of the house.

The man's always been decent with me and interesting to talk to. I don't understand the fixation. Bet he doesn't either lol. But as long as people are talking about him the more products he sells.

Clint took trapping information/knowledge to another level. Videos and access to information. He wasn’t afraid to try different things. He made self proclaimed God’s of trapping look mediocre.
