Yesterday was my first strongman competition. I competed in the novice, lightweight class. Weight cutoff was 220 lbs, I weighed in fully clothed at 188, lightest of the 6 in my group. We opened with a 135# overhead keg press for reps. Second was a 300 pound keg squat for reps. Then a fire department loading medley. Fourth was a 30,000 pound truck pull and the final event was a 3 stone race, first stone was 175#, followed by 215 and 265. I finished 5th out 6 in my group, but had an absolute blast.

Here is the link to the video of me running my events:

Very cool man. And if I remember right, you're no spring chicken.

44 years old, not old but definitely above the average for the competitors.

Absolutely. There were three gyms represented, plus some independents. Everyone cheered for everyone. All the coaches gave advice, the atmosphere was one of the friendliest I have ever been in.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

That'll either keep you young, or make you old quick! Lol glad you had a good time, sounds like fun.

ksnow-- GREAT job!! Our son was involved with Strongman competitions for a while. Finished 4th in the world at the Arnold in Columbus Ohio as an amateur a few years back.
Like Yukon said, I think it made him old quick!!

My son has had both shoulder and hip surgery;
Before he was old enough to legally buy beer!

That said, he's stronger than ever and has a strongman comp in August.

One of the guys he trains with is 63 yo, and we have seen folks in their 80s still competing in powerlifting.

Carrying the mass it takes to compete at a high level is what breaks strongmen down.
Eddie Hall dropped 100# pretty quick after retiring.

My son works 12+ hour shift, on his feet most of it, and has mentioned backing off and dropping 50#.
He's a SHW at the moment.

Nice job ! That last stone lift was impressive ! Especially at your weight. I have trouble carrying a 60lb beaver up an embankment…lol. And you will only get stronger too

The heavy and super heavy weight guys do punish their bodies a lot more than us little guys. I have zero plans to move up, at my age, I don't think putting on 30 pounds of muscle is a realistic goal, at least without chemical assistance. I am just in it for the fun, challenge and camaraderie. Gives me something to aim for when I work out.

Its amazing how having something solid to grip makes weight easier to move.

Maybe we should have a beaver tossing for height event?
