Like Yukon said, I think it made him old quick!!

My son has had both shoulder and hip surgery;
Before he was old enough to legally buy beer!

That said, he's stronger than ever and has a strongman comp in August.

One of the guys he trains with is 63 yo, and we have seen folks in their 80s still competing in powerlifting.

Carrying the mass it takes to compete at a high level is what breaks strongmen down.
Eddie Hall dropped 100# pretty quick after retiring.

My son works 12+ hour shift, on his feet most of it, and has mentioned backing off and dropping 50#.
He's a SHW at the moment.
Yep Dave, Nick hasn't competed in a few years. Might as well say he's retired. He dropped to 280lb when he got married. To me he looks better (healthier) at that weight.

That’s awesome man! Good work, squat form looked very strong. How does a guy go about finding strongman competitions in their area?

Try Iron Podium website. They host events all over the country.

Thanks for the form compliment. Thats my first ever time squatting 300, I'm pretty dang happy with that.

Hips/center of your body (glutes, hams, lower core, lower back, everything from mid thigh to belly button) is #1 to keep strong as you age, good strength there and your quality of life improves ..proper form on hip hinge lifts can yield very good results in those areas as well as full depth atg squats.

Congrats on you competition, looks good.

Great job. Looks like a lot of fun. Is lightweight the lowest weight class?

In novice, lightweight is anyone under 220. In open, they have a 180 and under lightweight and a 180 to 220 class.

Ratbrain,

I do most of my workouts in my basement, but Saturdays I go to Rage fitness in Sheboygan for strongman event training. Coach Chris is a 3 time national champion and the gym owner, the voice of the event, Todd, is a former coworker.
