In the 3rd world S-hole countries where the lifespan is around 40 they burn all their trash right in the street. I dont see any problem burning paper or cardboard but I wont burn plastic etc. When I was a kid every town had a dump.Once in a while they would light up a pile of old tires-you could see the inky black smoke trailing across the sky for several days. Glad they dont do that here anymore.

LOL,, pontoon boats!, NOT a boat...should just call them UFOs, ugly floating objects.
Here, we had total recycling, it all got sorted at a facility and allegedly sold, BUT, it wasn't, a lot was trucked to an incinerator. The only thing they take now is newsprint, cardboard, and clear #1,2 plastics. Market for everything else, including glass, collapsed. Recycling makes the do gooders feel righteous, except they never ran a business for a profit.

I hauled trash and did the recycling myself for 21 years. It was a feel-good movement that has fallen by the wayside. Monday the truck came down the street and dumped trash and recycling in the same truck. All garbage. If McD workers get $15/hr for dropping fries, how much do workers in a recycling plant have to be paid? It's cheaper to manufacture new rather than mess around with old stuff that is mostly contaminated and unusable anyway.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

I am and have been a pathological re-cycler since 1972, and will recycle the smallest scrap of anything I can. But they say 90% of what WE recycle ends up in the dump anyway, because THEY only have an interest in profit. Approx 90% of cardboard ends up as paper towels, which ends up in the trash again anyway. Trash to energy programs work fine, but only in big city's.

I took 10 gallons of used motor oil to the recycle center at the dump . Guy told me there was a 5 gal limit . He said I'd have to bring 5 gallons back the next day . I told him that's ok I'll just dump it in the river ......he said go ahead and just dump it then , but next time bla bla bla or something like that .......dummies

When your talking about life, sure, when your talking about a business of turning crap into gold, nope.
Someone has to pay for it, whether through recycling sales, or taxpayers money. My taxes are high enough thank you. Just throw it in the ocean.Keep you in the black.

I remember when recycling was all the rage. They gave everyone boxes to place their recyclables out with their trash. But the plastics had to be washed, the paper clean and dry, etc. and so most people didn't bother. Here in MS we don't have any of that. Maybe you could take recyclable objects to a place somewhere but I've not heard about it. Most people just throw everything in the trash can.
I recently went up to NY and they don't have plastic bags there. It felt like 1985 getting my groceries packed in a brown paper bag, lol. The paper bags make good weed sapresers under mulch in the garden
