My grandsons other grampa told us to shoot one a few years ago. Got loose and was wild as a deer. We saw it while deer hunting. I wanted to try and catch it but he said shoot it and we will eat it. So we did. I didnt butcher it just gutted it. Got to show my grandson how to gut a big animal without hanging it up. Other grandad was working clear up in KC. He got out a skid steer to drag it to the barn and hang it up When he got home.

Sorry to hear about your steer and dilemma. I understand he's a new purchase, but his attitude is a preview of what's to come. I had a few like him early on and they went to the sale barn as soon as I could get them loaded. I couldn't have that nonsense in my herd.

Every now and then a wayward rogue cow will step outta the Texas brush to see what I'm up to while trapping and as soon as I change body positions to look at it better.... poof, back into the cactus it steps. WILD looking hombres who've been REAL wild a long time since none of my deer ranches raise any cattle.

Always surprised how quiet they can be. And how they live around the deer hunting going on with a price on their heads.
I call 'em Comanche cattle cause they are the last hold outs.

Blessings,
Mark

Dang that sucks. Hope he shows back up. Here there is a guy that specializes in live stock recovery. No idea the cost but has to be better then a complete loss.

Cattle are herd animals so sometimes those stages will show up runnin with the neighbors herd or better yet come home on their own.

I'm not that patient but I've seen it work out for others

Little update. I got a phone call yesterday that a guy about 3 miles away saw my steer in one of his milo fields so I grabbed a rifle and flew over there. When I get there he said it came running toward the tractor while he was mowing but fled when it saw his dogs. I made a phone call and had a friend bring his drone over. 5 minutes in we located the steer and watched it lay down so I made another phone call to a guy who cowboys he brought his wife and a couple other guys. An hour later we were pushing that milo via horse back but he must have moved. I'm hoping we didn't put to much pressure on him and he is still in the area. I took my e-caller over there this morning and played it on calf bawl in hopes to get a shot on him. He is definitely living in that field by the sign I saw. I think I will go get a bucket of molasses and some corn today and put my cell trail camera up. Not sure what else I can try. I do know that I need to get him out of there.

We had one do that once. Off the trailer, through the barn wall, through the fence, across the field, through another fence and away it went... 4 days later at about 15 yo I came across it and it got a 16ga slug between the eyes standing in a side ditch. It was a funny tasting and textured beef after three days of running around with anxiety and hormones. Turns out ours was prego and half crazy. Anyway, good luck.

We had a young bull come through the plantation. Came through the horse pasture, stepping between the 3 strands on electric fence.
I rode through one day and saw a cow in the pasture and called the manager asking if we was in the cow business now. He had no clue what I was referring to. I sent him a pic and he said he had seen on FB of a young bull on the loose from a farmer about 3 miles away. As I was talking to him that joker just stepped on through the fence and continued on his way.
About 2 weeks later we got an update the bull had made it home, lol.

I wish mine would come home but that's not going to happen he is in heaven out there. One thing I can't figure out is where he is getting water.
