When the itching gets so bad and you're about to be able to not help but scratch it... wipe it down with straight bleach. It'll sting a bit. But it really helps to dry it out quicker.

Jewel weed, also known as "Touch me not". is an itch reliever. The touch me not name sound kinda scarry. It is because when touched the seed pods pop and emit the seeds. The plants are just starting to flower now.

To make a salve, pack a jar with jewel weed fill it with an oil such as olive oil, and let it infuse. Then strain and thicken with beeswax. I use it for poison ivy and insect bites.

So, now, I have a question. Would it work to run a bunch of plants through a juicer and just add the juice to a carrier oil? Since the plants are right now at a perfect stage of growth, I'll give it a try if no responses.

It's called Zanfel !

It's sold at nearly every major pharmacy and while it isn't cheap, it is RIGHT NOW !

By the time you realize you've gotten poison Ivy, you're likely far away from jewelweed and all these other 'cures' posted.
( Jewelweed, BTW is a cure for Stinging Nettles, not poison Ivy)

Zanfel Look it up !

Buy it, use it !

It will stop the inch the moment you wash with it

And stay out of the weeds ! laugh

Scrub with Lava soap or had degreaser with pumice.
It breaks down the oil and scratches the itch.
Dab with concentrated Jewel Weed juice.

I cut jewel weed and put in a clean new one gallon paint can. Cut enough leaves pieces and stems to fill the can. Add water to nearly full the can. Bring to a boil, then simmer for a couple hours. Let it cool and save in a clearly labeled jar in the refrigerator.

I have had many prednisone regimens over the years and had it the same time every year.
As a kid I would get it horrid.
I use a product called oral ivy now, and if I start it before spring I am fine.
6 drops in a bit of water each day and no more rash.
A lot of foresters here use it.
Before, I would avoid it at all costs and still get it several times a year.
Now I can use the brush cutter to clear a patch and maybe get a couple little itchy spots with no blistering.
Doesn't work for everyone, but is life changing for me.
Search for this. One bottle lasts me from April to October.

Jewelweed treats lots of itching including poison ivy, insects and probably a lot more.

PVC pipe cleaner, preferably the clear but purple works too, convenient dabber under the cap, kills the itch & drys it up quick. bleach irritates the whole area when i tried that.

A few weeks ago I found out that weed whacking with a gas powered tool wearing shorts in a spot with poison Ivy is not a really clever thing to do. The land lubber thing is a steep learning curve at times. I was wearing hearing and eye protection, before the safety nazis here get their knickers in a twist. blush

And Round Up kills it. I found some in my woods about 15 or so years ago. I sprayed it with Round Up. Wiped it out in 2 days. It has never come back.

As a kid, I used to get it several times in the summer because I was always going down to the river by our house to fish.
One year I even got it in mid-winter with snow on the ground. It seems the neighbor was burning some brush and the smoke drifted over to our house. I happened to be outside and ended up with it all over my face and neck.

I haven't been blessed with it for quite a few years. I think maybe it's because as a kid when I'd get it my parents would take me to the doctor for shots right away. That happened so often for so many years, maybe I developed an immunity to it.
