I’m gonna guess you probably have way more than 50-60hrs behind the wheel. I had that before I turned 12. You’ll do fine. Just drive like you’ve been doing it for years.

I've only had my permit for 10-11 months, so the 50-60 is probably close.

Checking mirrors and gauges is one thing they will watch for. I’d make it a point to make it obvious that you’re doing it so there is no question. Adjust the review mirror before you start driving…whether it needs it or not.

Don’t change lanes in an intersection.

Be good at parallel parking.

Check three times at yield signs…my CDL instructor said your head should be spinning like an owl at intersections…blind spots are what get you into accidents.

Yield to the vehicle on the right at uncontrolled intersections.

Keep wheel straight when stopped at an intersection waiting to turn….if you have the wheel turned while stopped getting rear ended would push you into oncoming traffic.

Not necessarily something that they grade you on, but more of a defensive driving technique…watch the wheels of stopped traffic at intersections to determine if they are starting to move. Don’t watch the vehicle. They teach this in motorcycle class.

I got dinged for some points on my CDL test after crossing a bridge, the inspector asked if it was marked for load capacity…I responded that I did not notice any markings. Correct answer was that it was not marked…this will definitely not come up on your test…only CDL. Word games.

Luckily my state doesn't require parallel parking, so I'm good on that.

And don’t forget….NEVAH EVAH …trust a blinkah. Trust me on this one ! People change their mind at the last second …and you pull out in front of them ..your toast ! Sometimes those blinkers have been on for miles too ! You wait until you see that person slow down and commit to the turn. And sometimes …the person with the blinker on…wants to turn after they pass you..not before you.

Breath deep and keep calm, I had years of driving on the farm and such but when taking the test I got nervous. The one thing I got wrong was the "uncontrolled intersection" thing. Not sure I understand it today.

Two hands on the steering wheel at 10 and 2. If they still make you parallel park, practice that. Complete stops at intersections are a must

your not the only one who doesn't get it the town I live in is >50% uncontroled intersections

officially it is slow down , cover the brake , watch for cross traffic yield to the person on your right

but much like the UN-official rules of round-a-bouts aka traffic circles Go slow , don't hit any one and don't get hit, better to yield than get hit. everyone else thinks it is a free for all or at least you couldn't tell they don't think it is a free for all from their behavior.

very true I told my kids every last one of those @#$%^&* is trying to kill you don't trust the fake watch for signs that they are actually slowing down and turning like they have started into the turn before you trust what they are doing.

the number of people texting and driving , driving tired, driving under the influence of you name it, raging , distracted driving or just plain stupid or reckless . is greater than the number of safe, sober, well rested , attentive drivers

Good advise here, especially about never trusting blinkers.

Always assume every other driver on the road is about to do something really stupid, and give yourself enough space to avoid being caught up in it. I work for the department of transportation doing road maintenance and you wouldn’t believe some of the stupid things I see drivers doing every day.

One thing I always do is when coming to an intersection where cross traffic has a stop sign/stop light, always look at the other drivers approaching the intersection and try to gauge their speed to see if they’re going to stop or not. If it seems like they’re going faster than they should, you yield to them until you are positive they’re going to stop! It doesn’t matter if you have a green light or not, if they blow through that intersection and T-bone you your injuries won’t care who had the right of way.

When do we find out if we passed?

I passed! Easiest test ever, I got a 100% and I don't know if it's because the guy liked my truck or not but I still passed. We went around the block and headed back to the station, didn't have to back up other than out of the parking space.
