Thinking about wax sand ? Sounds good. Sand is working well for me. So why not waxed sand??

I have strongly considered it even though they say southerners don’t need it. I figured if it kept my 550s working in rainy conditions it would be worth it to make. Will be interested how it works for you if you try it

I played with the idea for a minute this past winter when one of our rare freeze down nights occurred.

But I figured it would be another 364 days, or more, before I could get a chance to see if it worked, lol.

I have made it and used it before on account of rain. Seemed to work ok but water will collect in bottom of trap bed if it is clay. Kinda floats in the bed then.

I may give wax sand a try. Most of my trapping is in sand. But just need a way to keep running in extreme rain. Its getting close to hurricane season in the south. So more rain is coming. Making all sets with waxed sand might make it easier to keep running

The wax sand they sell is like powder. Best to make it yourself and add more wax so it packs and the wind won't blow it away. It's easy and way cheaper. In wet weather all ya need is a top coat of waxed sand when its warm, water runs right off. No low spot over the pan to accumulate water... A slight over coat to blend and keep direct sun off. Shoot me a PM for more details if ya want.

I just got a no-bs catalog with the wire lever traps in it. I can’t help but think these are going to be coyote hammers in extreme cold or wet weather.
