I went out driving yesterday and went to a local lake where we have a small platform to fish off of and there was garbage strewn about. How do you guys feel about people littering? I can guess the answers for most but just wanted to see. I did also pick it up, the 5 gallon bucket is half way full of crushed cans and the sled is all the garbage I have no use for. [Linked Image]

Good job picking up other people’s trash. Slobs that litter are losers. Thanks for your effort.

Thanks, It just makes me mad when a nice lake like that gets all trashed because of people. I'm going to go scouting again tomorrow which will most likely make me return with a load of trash.

unfortunately there are a lot of slobs in this world

the cub scout pack my son was in used to have spring clean up along the river
it was good for the kids to see how much trash people dumped

tires, vacuum cleaners , old recliners and just bags of trash beer bottles , pop bottles , cans and liquor bottles make up a lot of it you could tell they finished drinking and tossed it over their shoulder into the bushes

I found a cat liter bucket once full of oil and an oil filter , they had done an oil change and dumped the bucket with oil and filter along the river.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I agree with you and find myself picking up other peoples garbage on a regular basis.

A place I trap has buckets of old oil and filters but I can't do anything with it which really sucks because it just sits there.

I just wish I could find something to do with the rest of it since I can only use the cans for scrap/ the cans for kids.

I hate litterbugs. If I witnessed littering and depending on the amount of litter, I would report it to the authorities.

I had a neighbor who was a tailgunner in the Pacific theatre during WW2. Whenever we went anywhere in the outdoors he always cared a trash bag and picked up litter he found. Never commented about it...just silently picked stuff up and took it home leaving a a place better than he found it. He passed about 5 years ago at the age of 92.

My brother-in-law lived in the hills. There was an abandoned county road along the east side of his property. Some folks decides to dump a pickup bed sized load in the ditch down the hill, blocking drainage of it.
He rifled through it and found an envelope with an address on it.
He painstakingly picked up every scrap of that trash, loaded it in his pickup truck and delivered it to the address on the envelope, right on their front lawn and up against their front (and only) door of their house.
Those folks don't know how lucky they were to not be home at the time. He said he didn't have time to wait for them to get home because he was already late for work. I'm surprised he didn't set it afire.

It's everywhere sadly. I Carry bags and pick it up often. Frequently around lakes it's fishing related trash. Old like lure packages, food and drink packages from people fishing. Disgusting they use the resources and trash it

Sadly this lake is used by so many people and there was no pinpointing but I would be the same way.

I usually make no comment of it but whenever I talk to people about it they always look at me weird since I pick up other people's garbage.

This was all from around a lake hence the fishing line wrapped around the branch and all the cans, lure packages, etc.

I like your brother-in-laws solution to the problem.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Have you noticed people's houses and property lately? The pride of ownership and keeping a place "up" has lost its luster in our culture. Homes all around us here in northern MI are being "let go" by those who never come outside to trim a tree, mow a spot, or fix anything. They simply use it and then when it's a dump, try to sell it for a zillion dollars.

People now live indoors mostly in our land.
Doing what I couldn't tell ya. I'm an outdoorsy guy through and through.

And me and mine run a tight ship on our place.
My grandad taught me that.

Blessings,
Mark

I notice a lot more garbage in our area- The two sources are: Nasty People as 330 said and the second source is the dump style garbage cans- every used Wal-Mart bag is air borne when those trucks dump from 15'. I wish people would use drum liners to prevent the litter from scattering on garbage day.

He should have called law enforcement. No your brother in law was the lucky one . You back up on someone else’s property and start throwing out garbage good way to get killed. Plus about 30 years ago people were getting tickets from county fir littering and it was the trash collection team If there truck got full they would just make room by throwing some over a hill somewhere
