I bought theses at Menards and they use to be sharp. After cutting a few cables they lost there cutting abilities.

I'm following because I have the same issue. However, for what it's worth, I ended up cutting my disposable stake cables over the weekend with a 1 inch chisel. It worked great.

What cutters did you buy? Were they made for stainless, or just coax, soft wire cable.

I never got them tool shop ones to last at all and had no luck resharpening them (steel is too soft IMO). I demoted them to cutting wire and bought a pair of these from Funke's they cut clean every time and they aren't as expensive as my C7's.

The steel in those won't hold up to cable at all, just like ADC wrote about above. Unfortunately, good cable cutters aren't cheap.

The best way to sharpen those is to order the Felco C7 cutters. Then dump your old cutters.
That worked for me.

You were lucky to get one cable cut out of coax cutters. Need to have ACSR jaws on lineman pliers, not cheap either or ones made specific for aircraft cable.,

You can get cable cutters made specifically for aircraft cable for relatively cheap at Amazon or Harbor Freight

Just happy to be here.

Hit for me also! Good enough for Newt, good enough for me. Cost for Hit brand is about 1/2 of what the Felco C-7 cost.

Bench mounted swager with built in cable cutter is the way to go in such volume. Bit spendy though.

You guys paying for HIT or Felco C7s are seriously over-paying. The ones in the link I made cut just as well and have lasted years. I have the felco C7s and yes they work great but there is no need to pay over $20 for a set of cable cutters. They are easier on the hands, smaller, and easier to carry on the line than the bigger C7 style as well. They are great for removing tighly cinched snares as well.

That's interesting. I never gave them a second look because of how crude the metal appears. I judged the book by the cover I guess. Must be made of harder steel than what they look like.
