I just got back from voting for our state primary. Last time wife and I voted we went to nearby public elementary school. I kinda consider that pretty neutral ground.
This time we had to go to the nearby Living World Church.. I would think that be considered kind of intimidating to some people? I know one of the pastor there and alot of them people packing on Sunday. Including the pastor he packing all time. Not that people packing bothers me but might bother some folks. Me any time I enter a church. I worry more about bursting into flames catching full blazing fire.
But seriously shouldn't a polling place be in neutral location.
Oh yeah too..the old lady working there. She wouldn't give me two ballots either and I even winked the code at her..
Old Nage.. eek

they can't preach to you while your voting , but it isn't that uncommon in many places it is the only place big enough to accommodate the election.

here is an article that cites court decisions that challenged using churches a s polling places

In my old neighborhood, I voted at the same church for many years and then they changed my polling place to a different church.

I don't see any conflict with it.

People should be "packing" everywhere; church is no exception. Why would it be?

Have voted in the local Catholic churches hall for years now. I don't think anyone is intimidated or put off by it. On that day it's just another polling place. No religious pictures or icons to be seen.

Churches, schools, community centers, about any old place with a room and parking lot big enough to handle the traffic. For the longest time, my parents voted in an old one room school house. When that fell in, they moved up the road to an Allis Chalmers dealership lobby.

What I find both amusing and troubling........we were instructed to be careful about electioneering at or near a polling place. Up to and including could not even wear a T-shirt for my candidate or issue. No pins, no nothing. Keep it clean.

But.........once same bunch send ballots out in the mail, I can go knock on doors, and ask if they have filled theirs out yet and if not, offer to help them fill it out. Better yet, just sign the envelope and I'll take it all with me to fill out later. That is how you get thousands of ballots to drop into illegal drop boxes. Imagine the opportunity when a state sends a live ballot in the mail to every registered voter they have, real or otherwise. A huge float of live ballots in the public domain just ripe for the picking.

Vote by mail has to be the biggest election fraud mechanism ever concocted.

I wouldn't be worried about voting in a church. A building is a building, if they want to have it in a barn I could care less. Better then standing outside in the rain or humidity.

Our polling place used to be the township building, but has since moved to a church. I attend a Catholic Church, my wife a Methodist Church….I think the polling place is a Community Alliance Church. Seems neutral to me, but if the township opted to use a Mosque or Synagogue as a polling place, there would be a fuss about it. I wouldn’t have any issues with voting there, but maybe someone else would.

We vote in a church hall. I suppose it was selected because it has enough room to handle the people in our voting district...Like someone else said it doesn't matter what kind of building it's in, it's just a place to vote.

We vote in a church now. My previous polling place was a union hall; now that I consider intimidating, considering they don't take the union propaganda down for voting, and the hall bar is open.

My polling place is the Methodist church directly across the tracks from my front door. I walk to vote.

Other than that I won't set foot in the door of that heretical denomination.

A polling place is neutral ground.
I vote at a public school. On election day, it is a polling place-not a school. Therefore concealed carry is allowed. That, according to a lawyer I know....at least in the
  • parking lot
  • entrance
  • hallway
  • actual polling area.

I agree with Mac, here its always at a town hall, dont agree with it being in a Church.
On a side note, I wonder if the unions will get behind Michels, as he is one of the states largest employers, Been union forever or if they will still vote for a person who never created a job in his life?

Town halls work great for Mayberry where it's 37 people voting.

In bigger towns, they need lots of places for lots of folks. Last week I voted at 9:30 AM and was Voter #193 at my polling location. There were 2 locations at that school.

Schools and churches are the best bet. Lots of them, spread out across town and most have open areas for tables and voting booths.

Who cares what building it is? You walk in, check in, vote and leave.

Some of these folks are so pagan that they hate churches.

We used to vote at a school house. The school resource officer “intimidated” some voters (with outstanding warrants), so the resource officer had to remain in another building. Imagine that.
