I have a fellow that is local who charges $125 for kill fee (will come and get it) and then $1.25 per pound wrapped. Does this sound right and would it be worth it? Even when buying a calf, feeding it, then butchering it. What is the ideal weight for going this route. Thanks for your help. Sarge

That sounds like a fair price, I'd want my steer at 12 to 1400 lbs live weight before slaughter

Thats a great price compared to here. Anything over 900 pounds is ready to butcher.

To me that is a very good price for you. Say a 1300 lbs. beef animal dresses out at 55% or 715 lbs. and you wind up with say 540 lbs.wrapped. That is $800 for slaughter, cutting, trimming, packaging and wrapping or a little over $1.50 to have it done and the supplies.

Is that walking weight, hanging weight or wrapped weight?

prime yield grade ones are 1.55 on hoof, 2.40 hanging + .80 locker plant charge, so 3.30 is in line.
