Fork over the little extra for a Hobart. I've had mine for going on 20 years and have no complaints. I believe, Miller makes the Hobart brand. Parts are everywhere (I've only needed new tips for the gun) and they are super easy to use and bulletproof. IMO

Change the rod you or using. They have a spray you can get to help with the clean up or try Pam spray. That will buy you some time. While looking for a mig. But, if I was you. I would save a little more money, and get a good one. You know you are going to use it. Try 6013, or 7014. They will have a smoother weld and less buck shot. And use the spray.

You can get a decent Hobart mig welder for the price range you stated. All the Hobarts I've been seeing are starting at like $600 new and the used market is always hit or miss

Wolf, Check out Mike Festiva's YouTube channel.

And he builds some awesome stuff. I'll give him a look up thanks !

Yeahhh that's the thing. 7018 is my preferred since it penetrates good and if I do my part next to no clean up. Problem is restarting is a pain and when you need to do a lot of tacks and small wedls like when I'm making drags it just plain kills me on time. Love 6011 easy restart, penetration like a champ all positions way peasy so I don't have to constantly move my work piece around but it's so dag blasted dirty I have to spend extra time cleaning eveying up with a wire wheel. 6013....egh... It's ok for a few things I do but honestly by the time I get to where I need something like it they've managed to get wet due to the humidity and weld like crap. About the only thing I use them for is when Im welding sheet steel 7014 I like but getting it in the 3/3nd diameter I need for my machine is a pain alot of times.

Buy a good welder, you will NEVER be mad that you bought a good machine, but you will be mad a hundred times that you didn't! Save some money, or take a loan, you build enough stuff that you could pay it off in a reasonable time if you market right. And I'm not talking about going full bore, just here and there! Good luck.
