Hey guys, I was recently given a bunch of old 1.5 coils and other coon/ mink/ muskrat footholds. They haven’t been used in a long time, and have a good coating of rust. Some were rusting heavily, but most just had surface rust. Since I don’t plan on running a huge raccoon line this fall, I boiled them in walnuts, let them dry, and then put them in crates and totes. They took a really good coating of dye, and are black as coal. Will they store well like this, or should I give them a coating of wax as well? Thanks!!!

Storing them under a roof? They'll be fine. If not, wax 'em.

Depends, if they’re left out where they have a good chance of getting wet from time to time I would wax them, but if storing indoors they’re fine just dyed.

Even indoors you have to consider waxing. If you store in a basement that's damp they will rust. Wax them then no worries

Don't trust a 55 gallon barrel even with a gasket to keep out rain water. I found out the hard way.

Totes may seal up nice and tight but you still need to consider condensation. Best not to seat them and store them inside.

I keep mine outside in the weather in milk crates. All waxed. Never had a problem doing them this way, no rust.
