Squirrel season opened here August 1st. I've been working with Murphy to get him excited about chasing squirrels, and getting him the idea to jump up the tree and bark at them. He's taken to it well, and today he treed his first squirrel! Everything is real thick here and it was a ways off, so I had to point it out to him, but once he saw it he did his job perfectly, stood at the base of the tree and barked at it until I got over and shot it. Super proud of him!

cool That looks like a LOT of fun!

Give ol' Murphy a pat on the head for me.

What from Christ that soul can sever,
Bound by everlasting bands?
None shall take thee
From the Strength of Israel's hands.

Love it!!! Murphy deserves a comfy spot to sleep and a good meal tonight!

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

What kind of dog? Never hunted squirrels with a dog but bet it’s lots of fun.

Red heeler. Not exactly bred for it, but he s decided the neighborhood squirrels (and black cats) are his mortal enemies, so I figured we'd try it. Didn't take much for him to learn to stand on a tree trunk and bark at em, now we're working on spotting them in the woods

Squirrel hunting with dogs is a blast, if I would have stayed in MO I think that would have been my thing. Wish we had some out on the prairie. You’re from Beatrice? My wife just watched a documentary on “the Beatrice 6”. As a local, do you think they had a role in it all or what?
