These apples are small and very numerous. Would they be okay for applesauce or are they too small. Cooking apples, droughts eating apples??? [Linked Image]

Absolutely, size really don't matter just takes more of them and more peel and seed to deal with.

They have worms so apple sauce may be out of the question. Guessing they still have about 2 months to ripen.

That or hail damage. I seldom get a apple without hail damage. An apple the size of a pea or marble carries the ding until ripe from what I have seen.

If they are ripe now they are probably "Transparents'", a cooking apple; very good for apple sauce and pies.

Look like they could be granny smith apples , great for cooking. Should be green when ripe , kinda tart to eat .

Once they ripped cut around bad spots, soften them, blend them up and stick in quart jars. Heck I don't even take skins off when I make sauce. Just a little ruffage.

Not ripe. So they're likely gonna be bigger in a month or two.

If there's a hole the worm came out.
The moth lays the egg in while tree is flowering.the apple forms around the worm.

They look like Lodi to me. We used to have a similar apple called a yellow transparent. Mine will be ripe in about a week. Small apples can be caused by to much fruit on the tree which is what yours look like. If a Lodi fruit will turn a lighter green when ripe, I think yours are almost there.

Our transparants are ripe how. We have made two batches of apple sauce . Keep it in freezer. Good crop , few more worms, just cut out the bad bits. We quarter. uncore, cook, and put throgh a food mill,.add sugar and freeze. Good stuff. .Also looks like our wild apples will be good this year. Good food for the deer and critters. old243

Interesting. I have some "Heritage" apple trees I dug up off a old homestead up near Ely, MN. They ripen VERY early and by now are a bag of apple sauce on the vine. The critters don't care and eat them anyway.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Look at the base of the tree and see if there is a graft scar.
every apple seed grows a different apple so their genetics is vast.
with a little shine on one apple those look ready to harvest.
Are there any cider processors in your area, that would by my venue to take them to get done.

Do you have a Brix refractometer reader to measure sugar content ( like used in syrup production) should read 8-10%

Interesting you would ask that. There is definitely a limb grafted on that appears to be crabappple. I'll harvest some and see what happens.

Many of the trees put out in the 1920-30-40 through 'mail order' in Canada ( Eatons)+ PFRA plantings had 3 trees grafted along the bases of a 3 year old whip.
One was for jelly making=Dogo !!
one was for pie making Aug- Oct
one was a winter storage apple that was put down
so always look when going into old homesteads what is there

many an evening was spent at the duck club with a apple Connoisseur person who was responsible developing the 1967 Centennial Flowering Crabapple tree that has pink blossums
