Was checking traps this morning and moving some cameras around and rode up on this hog. Saw him and immediately shut the truck off and pulled the keys. He was a little spooked and knew something wasn’t right. I grabbed the gun, and gently opened the door. He started moving away from me so I started following and keeping my wind away from him. I got within 75 yards and he really started acting spooked. I found him in the optics and shot. He dropped on the shot which sorta surprised me. I searched through the optics and couldn’t see him. As I started walking his way he got up stumbling and was making his way across the road I’d been driving on. No since in tracking him through the thick stuff, just got my optics on the edge of the road and waited until he started to cross and anchored him on the far side of the road. A nice stinking boar hog, lol.

Skin and cut him up. Soak some in a good brine. All the stink is gone.

Gonna be honest, if they’re over 75# we feed them to the buzzards. Even then it’s only the back straps. I’m not much on “hoggish” tasting pork. When the buzzards won’t hardly touch it, you know you’ve made a wise decision, lol.

Soak the meat in milk over night

Use to leave them in an erosion ditch at the edge of a hayfield in central Ga. They would still be there a month later. Buzzards don’t like I’m. I don’t think opposum like ‘‘em either.

Yep, and even from highways. And I thought Canada was the “wild place” lol.

Most plantations have “named” roads for ease finding someone or telling someone where to go. This particular “road” is called the “Airstrip” just because it’s a long straight away. We have one called “Slash” and bet you can guess why. Even have one called “Mason Dixon” and you can probably guess that one as well.

Yeah I stuck a camera on a couple sows and piglets thinking I’d see some predators. Only saw buzzards and a Red Tail Hawk. I thought for sure a coyote, cat, or even a possum would show up, lol.

What a waste of good meat. It may take some different methods but still could fill a freezer or a bunch of Mason jars.

Guess one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. You can have all you want, lol. I ain’t eating nothing I gag on while trying to skin it. They won’t even put them in the back of trucks or UTV’s when dragging them off. Throw a strap around it and pull it to the graveyard.

Two things I'm happy I don't have to deal with; hogs and possums.

I hear folks all the time saying “they wish they had hogs on their property.” They just think it’s a novel idea until they do get them. Once you get them, you’ve got them. Trapping, running dogs, night hunting, you name it, it might help but it doesn’t get rid of them.

I'm not much on eating these feral hogs either, but the meat can be put in an ice cheat and a couple liters of Sprite (soft drink) poured over the ice and let sit for about 2 day and the "wildness" will leave that meat.

Looks like fun, but I wouldn’t want hogs in my neighborhood. The feral horses around here hurt the native wildlife enough as it is. One of these days I’m gonna go south and do my part to thin the hog numbers

And he can do it with guns you're not allowed to have.

Apparently I’m missing something. Overpopulation? If you mean the hogs, worse case is I get two or three with one shot. If you’re referring to something else, I must have missed that post.
