Some thief got my debit/credit card # and used it 10 times at some place names Hungry Panda...in New York City. I've never been to NYC and didnt even know what a Hungry Panda was until all this.

My card was cancelled. Have new one now. And my bank has refunded all $360. The peckerheads tried to use it more than 25 times but only those 10 transactions went thru. My bank caught this and alerted me.

You can be assured I will monitor this more closely from now on.

lots of ways they get it , it is making a lot more sense to only use a credit card now.

card skimmers , we had one at a local gas station a few years ago , person pulls up in the middle of the night looks to be getting gas and installs this skimmer over the one at the station , they then can pull your card number and pin

with as easy as paying the credit card can be with the online and phone apps buy on the credit card and pay off when you get home

only used credit online

that way they aren't clearing your account

glad your bank refunded you the 360 many you have to fight to get that back.

a few years ago I heard it put this way the average identity thief (card thief) gets 30K and does less than 3 years even when caught , the average bank robber gets less than 3K and 10 years or more when caught.

Some cards will automatically refuse a transaction made out of state , for that very reason.

When I travel, I let them know where I'll be so they won't lock my card when I use it. I don't mind that at all.

I always keep a keen eye on statements , and even the APR they charge, I ask them to lower it to the lowest they can and they always do. You have to keep an eye on that , as they end up raising them a bit due to changing circumstances, but they always lower it also, when I tell them I want it kept low.

It does feel good to keep your finger on the pulse of your cards and what they're doing.

I've got alerts on my cards, get a text and an email everytime they're swiped.

This card number is tied to a checking account...it is a debit card. It has a VISA logo, but it's not a credit card. I do not use an actual credit card....interest rates too high.

The card number was stolen, not my PIN number. Every illegal transaction (at the Hungry Panda) was an on-line order....so they didnt need my PIN. The even tried to use it for a delivery service but it was declined.

I only had $3500 in that account as it is my NWC account.

I use a CC and never pay any fee. Pay the balance in full every month.
It is very handy ... and more secure than exposing your checking accnt..

A scumbag somehow got hold of my business debit card numbers and used it to purchase $800.00 worth of tools in Ft. Lauderdale Florida (a 1,000 miles away). He then used it at a second location a few hours later to buy $700.00 worth of tools.

My bank didn't catch it, I did when I was reviewing my accounts online. I called them and had the card shut down immediately. They gave me $1,500.00 in provisional credit pending an investigation. The credit was made permanent a few week later.

Same here, let the CC company assume the risk. I also don't let end of month balance roll over.

SW, if you ever do want a CC, with very good credit, they offer periods of no APR , anywhere from a few months, to half a year or even a couple years .

I get those offers all the time and use them so that I rarely ever even pay any APR.

The better the credit score , the quicker they want to have you happy.

Do this if it's available!! Then your notified on every transaction right away!!

Like others have said it’s best to never use a card linked to your bank account. Can be very tough to get refunded thru a bank.

Most credit card companies offer the security of a text alert to your phone anytime your CC is used. Really easy to get fraud charges stopped immediately.

Take a finger or even a hand off for such a crime...might make one think before stealing form some one.

Got tagged last week. Bank shut it down same day. Now waiting on my new card. What a pain.
