It is really funny to hear about the banks. No actual cash on hand. My scrap yard keeps about 100,000.00 cash on hand daily. Coin dealer has twice that amount. Took the bank 5 days to scrounge up 50,000.00 for the sale of my brothers launch. The buyer said I will pay you in cash. Went to the bank. Sorry we have no cash. laugh

When I worked in the fur room at Pacific Hide and fur in Gt Falls MT the boss would send me up stairs to get them $100,000 in cash when they were busy. They often bought $100,000 worth of fur in a day during the peak of the season.

When I was a pup my mother was buying something....I have no memory of what it was today, but she had several 1000 dollar bills. Only time I ever saw one. That was over 60 years ago.

I would bet its intentional from most national banks. Some banks dont always have the reserve required by law, hence why there's a thing called the Overnight Lending.(which the interest rate has been skyrocketing in the last few months)

I went to cash a large check and wanted cash. They told me they didn't have that much after a lot of back and fourth. I said ok .only gimme me 30k in cash then the rest in a check. Nope didn't have that much either. But they could have it in a few days!!!

That was over 13 years ago.. not my bank it was the bank my lawyer used in his building. I was blown away a bank would have so little money on hand.

Banks and the government doesn't want you to cash checks and have cash at home. They want everything you have in a bank where they have access to it when they want it. Have experienced it first hand, if there is a descrepacy in your taxes weather you are in the right or not they will reach into your account and get what they want. The bank then sends you a notification of the transaction. In my case we had several case numbers that the error (on the IRS side) had been settled. IRS removed a little over 13,000 from my company checking account. Two weeks later I got a check from the IRS for the same amount that they seized saying it was seized in error.
It's scary that they can take what they want with no notice or hearing or anything.

Truist bank that used to be BB&T now asked you what you are doing with the funds for any withdrawal over 2,000.
I tell them every time that I'm going on a crack binge and the strip club. Get a lot of shocked looks.

Government is looking to eliminate both $100 and $50 notes. They claim it makes the drug trade to easy ... an effort to making cash transactions bulky and cumbersome. Banks have lots of money in the form of ones and zeros, it's just not in a tangible form.

I think I would be looking for a new bank!

Most banks require a day or two to get cash in large amounts if requested. This is not new. Many people don't know this because they never requested a large sum in cash. I'm not sure what that exact amount is. Ask your bank next time you're there and see what they say.

Our local Credit Union has a policy that if you want more than $5,000 in cash you need to call them the day before. Over $10,000 it's 2 days.

Most of our banks are the same way.

I have noticed this phenomenon @ the bank over 10 years ago. As far as withdrawing large amounts of cash.

And if you so withdraw such large anounts... You better have documentation a million ways from Sunday in case you have a run in with law enforcement and they civil forfeiture your butt. Even then you still my might not get your money back or spend as much in court getting it back as you had.

New banks don't even have safes, the older banks still do though so typically the older bank in the branch holds all the cash. If there's an "old" branch of your bank locally try that one for cash.

All the hundreds around here are in backpacks. With legalized medical Marijuana we have people buying land for cash like it's nothing.
