Thanks for the info an the app. I think they are an the app says they are smooth chanterelles. I’m gonna give them a try with supper. If I don’t make it, y’all know the reason They are pretty good sautéed, they had a string cheese texture to me. Fresh young oyster is good also.

It is disruption of the mycelia that is the issue when pulling mushrooms. I both cut and pull depending on the situation ie next to a log or in some brush. I'm pretty certain it doesn't do too much damage to pull. Good and bad chanty years have much more to do with weather patterns and also whether or not the previous year was a heavy producing year, imho.

As far as wether those are chanterelles in the pic they look like it to me, but it is the gills that give you the best information and the pic is not very clear there. Some of mine from a previous year:

The gills will be solid ridges. If they a loose and flimsy they are not chanterelles. Most of the time the ridges will extend about half way down the stem. Around my area a large chanterelle will be 3 inches across . Most closer to 2".

Well I ate them. Put them on the grill in aluminum foil an drained the water off an then added some butter. Wasn’t bad. Had them with some chicken Well, if you don't die... and you ain't on one of those goofy low carb diets... next time, cut them in half the long way, dip them in egg, then crushed saltine cracker crumbs, and fry them in butter.
