To find another dog for the trap line zippie was a champion and always will be. She was part Airedale and where I think she got her drive so I'm thinking Airedale. I have been looking at puppies I would like to find some from work stock. If anyone knows of any body that has puppies or going to have let me know thanks.

Good luck on your search. Each dog is different, hope your new one is as good as the last.

It's hard to find a dog after losing a such a good one like Zippy. But like k snow said, each one is different. Good luck on your quest!

Oden Airedale’s
Tony Oden is the owner. He’s a good dude and a trapper. He’s an officer with the Missouri Trappers Association as well.
He’s had working Airedales for many years.

Well mad a call to Oden and he put me on the trail of some pups out of his stock here in Virginia. Looks like I will be making a phone call in the morning to see what's still available. I will keep the post updated hopefully with pictures.

I vaguely remember the name Oden's Airedales. He might have what used to be called redline Airedales. The redlines were an old working strain of Airedale with much tighter, harder coats rather than the long flowy locks that the show people preferred. I've even seen a few pictures of "redline Airedales" that were entirely short haired with no curls or beard.
No experience with them but I would imagine that a shorter, harder coated Airedale would be much lower maintenance in a working dog in snow and mud.

If that doesn't work out, you might look into Jagdterriers, look a lot like a miniature airedale. Used to know a guy who raised them, and I know a guy who has one he uses as a trapline dog and a bloodtrailing dog. Usually around a 25-30 pound dog so not to small, but not a great big dog either, and even more fearless than most terriers.

This is the pup I'm going to look at 12 weeks old and 19lb and good blood line. So then the training process will start all over again with zip it was fairly easy. She will get to ride along on the trap line this year and see what's going on. I will start her off with long line training to teach her that her attention has to always be on me. With zip I only taught sit, stay and hold. As she got older it seemed like she knew what I wanted her to do before I told her.

I think you made the right choice, Travis. What a little sweetie! I love halloween dogs, my Baby dog was with me at a convention, when I met Oden the first time. He said, what is that dog, I told him 1/2 airedale and half jagt terrior. He went on to say he raised airedales, but was really interested in Baby, cause of her size and proportions! 40 # dog, with a big airedale head and feet, and not quite 2 feet tall!

Good luck with your new buddy. I've always said that the good Lord didn't make dogs live long enough for us, but I will not be without them!

I like mix breeds just because if you get the right combination you have the perfect working partner. Me and my little girl are going down today I will post some pictures.

I have been watching for a Jagd pup. I see some, but some are over $1000 and are slick haired, light built, pointed face dogs. I do not care for that type. I like the broke coat blocky head. I am sure some of those would make a good dog, but it not what I want.
