The past five or so years we have been over run with them. This year not a one. Wondering why?? How have they been around your place?

They're bad in my area of Wisconsin this year.

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

Our populations have dwindled to near nothing but a small sampling here and there. 10 years ago we were flooded with work in mid september.

Same here in southeast PA Bob. Five years ago I'd be taking walks around the house spraying hundreds of them on the exterior walls with a Dawn dish soap water mix to kill them before they could find their way inside. Now I rarely see them. Maybe some natural predator or pesticide killed them off.

Eh...wot?

Marmorated stink bugs have very few natural predators. I have seen some consumed by some spiders and a few by assasin bugs. Birds here pick them up then in a few seconds drop them.

Being an invasive species I feel they have cycled down in many areas of the country and may or may not rebound down the road. Some invasives can't always adapt well to their new environment. Billions die during their necessity to hibernate. Some make it thru but many of the breeding hopeful pre emerging adults don't.That I think has contributed to their decline in the colder regions of the U. S..

Warmer states are still experiencing them or may be subject to a new invasion from repopulation to an area. Coastal areas with ship yards within a few hundred miles and heavy trucking traffic are most prone to re infestation.

Just another problem China sent to us.

Had them bad 2 years ago, killed them by the thousands with the dish soap solution, last year very few, this year a few popping up but it's early yet, first colder night has them thinking of moving in with you...If they don't make it into your attic I think the cold gets them, I find dead ones in the shed and other unprotected spots.

What I can't figure out is how are they getting into the house?, attics, crawl spaces I can see but there's always a few hanging out on the inside windows with no obvious openings to get in....drives my wife nuts, lol

Thanks Bob. Live outside of Norfolk and Portsmouth Va. A lot of trucks hauling containers from all over pass not to far from the house, never made the connection before about what could be hitching a ride. We had not one mater scarred from those pain in the butt bugs. Have a good evening fellas.

Quick question, what's this Dawn Dishsoap mixture? A couple years ago we were inundated with the little buggers. This time of year on a warm sunny day the west side of my house would be covered with them in the afternoon. Really wierded out my wife so we hired a bug exterminator. They make four applications a season to take care of any and all bugs including wasps and such. The cost is reasonable for me.

Just a very few this year. Last three years were real bad. Seems all bug numbers are way down. I sprayed inside the house and around the perimeter and normally see loads of dead bugs in the days following but this year not many at all. Have had issues with flying ants this year and not in years past?

One would think nothing would eat them. But this time of year when you see turkey heads bobbing up and down in a bean field, that is what they are looking for, they love them.

I am talking about stink bugs not those imported lady bugs. I have a great, great, niece that ate one of those when she was a year old, she never tried another one.

I have seen many a green phase of the stink bugs and some camo printed eco skeletons. Not sure if that is a genetic adaptation or just a natural color phase that comes out in the species.

I think the green ones are a native stink bug, not the problem of the marmorated ones.

As for the soap mixture, I use an equal amount of liquid dish soap(any kind), and white vinegar, and fill container with water, so a 1 to 1 to 2 ratio, more or less. Exact mixture doesn't seem to matter, I just go by eye...
Found the recipe with a google search, theres several but similar.

WAY less than I've seen any time in the last fifteen years. But it is early yet, once we start to having freezing nights I'm sure they'll show up.

I'm noticing a lot of squash bugs this year on pumpkins, gourds and zucchini- I also see a lot of Daddy Long legs in the same vicinity- do they feed on them?

Probably..
I had a bumper crop of squash bugs last year, Thousands... Left the bad squashs out for bait after the vines died and killed them with the same soap recipe... Took several days but I couldn't find a live one after that.

My wife captured this one earlier this afternoon. I’ve seen a few this color before but, not a lot.
