Center fire has options, I dont think rimfire does. would pretty much take small game and trapping dispatch out of the game.

At the range that i used to go to back in SC ( its was run be the DNR ) they did not allow steel core ammunition. ( green tips ) ..... So now the folks that use that range are limited to copper rounds. Those are few and far between when looking at pistol calibers and if at all available, a dead pricey for pistol and rifle rounds. not even thinking about those crazy 22lr's .... It would be a big nail n the coffin for the shooting sports for sure.

Watch some of these shows like Lone Star Law, Louisiana Law, North Woods Law, etc. The CO's are checking the waterfowl hunter's shells with a magnet to make sure they aren't shooting lead.

They've been doing that since the mid 80's!

I wouldn't get your Claude Dallas hats out yet...There is no reference to "lead", "lead ammunition", "lead bullets", "lead shot", or any combinations of those words at all in the bill. You can download the PDF and search it yourself here:

https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/5376

I also searched for non-toxic, public lands, federal lands BLM, forest service usfws, etc, etc. Nothing about lead shot or non-toxic ammo requirements. Not to say it isn't tucked away in a pending rider somewhere, but nothing in the current bill as written.

It was in a proposed rule earlier this year by the FWS on regulations.gov I believe. Magnet check is absolutely worthless to check for lead, since there are tons of approved ammunition that a magnet wont stick to, even for waterfowl.

Do you have a source for that? Pretty sure Obama banned them, then Trump's guy unbanned them.

Not sure about NWR and I know of course waterfowl, but I'm pretty certain lead is legal on National Forest lands.

Good to know, I just had a friend ask about it a few hours before this thread showed up on here. First I had heard of it, and he was asking if it was true.
