Ducks unlimited had a post on Facebook that showed waterfall numbers declining… I commented by saying that nest raider populations are at an all time high. Due to compromised and declining fur market, we don’t have the numbers of trappers that we did that helped keep those numbers in check. I had one woman reply by saying trapping is not necessary because traffic keeps those in check,, another said it’s solely because of drought conditions. Just blows my mind,,, the facts are indeed out there… we as trappers understand this,,, why in gods name can’t others in the hunting community do the same? Why doesn’t ducks unlimited promote trapping as an important wildlife management tool like delta does??

Probably because DU solicits funds from latte libs.

DU is a good organization, but they are a look at me org. Delta is also a good organization, they don’t care what folks think, they just want results. Both know trapping works, one just chooses to not advertise to keep the money flowing.

I was going to say something to that effect - so i am glad you beat me to it. It seems that here most of our DU guys are the portland and eugene "city hunters" with their expensive leases.

A nearby Audubon facility here opened up their grounds to deer hunting a few years ago. They did it because of high deer populations causing severe over-browse. There was very little left for the birds which is the purpose of Audubon's goals to provide good habitat.

There was big outcry when this first happened but I bet things are much better now. Cooler heads prevailed.

The whole DU organization is a fraud

Just as the left has successfully controlled Academia, they have infiltrated DNR's Dow's and most of the "sportsman's Org's" are puppets for the DNR's and go along with whatever they say. One small bite at a time, they're winning.

Baby ducks must be the truffles to the predator world. I have a few broods of domestics every year on my ponds, and if the coons dont get them, the owls, hawks, turtles, snakes and here lately the Blue Herons will get them. And I have been very persuasive in discouraging them all.

I think the blue Herons are why I no longer see large frogs or many big enough to harvest. Just my theory and I can't prove it but I saw the chang as I started seeing more Herons. I also started having those yellow worms in fish. I'm no fan of those birds.

Herons will gobble down frogs one after another.Will gulp down baby ducks too.

While I was trapping for Delta Waterfowl, one year DU owned a block of land on the block I was trapping. DW wrote DU a letter asking for permission for me to trap the block. DU said no I could not trap it, they did not believe it helped. DU and DW compete for the same money. For years DU was the only one trying for it. There is not a lot of work back and forth between the two organizations for a common goal.

I use to be the chairman of our local chapter and I agree with MNTrapper21 ,100%.

They sure like their banquets.... The only project they were associated with here was pretty much a failure ...YMMV

That is why I let my DU membership expire this year. 50-year member.

Pheasants forever and quail forever dont want any yotes killed because they keep the nest predators in check. Really? Junk science.

I've chaired our local chapter and been a district chairman for 20 years. I guess I've missed all this fraud.

I haven't got much use for DU around here. They have gone on record stating that they would sell hunters down the river in favor of anti money.
Delta is where my money goes and as an added bonus, they are staunch supporters of trapping
